About a week ago I got 4 silkies about 3 months old. I am thinking now about getting a few more chickens, for eggs. I was thinking buff Orpington or something else. Anything you would recommend?
Also I wants to get them about the same age, how can I keep the peace or will it not be a problem if they are close in age?
I have searched the site and it seems I need to separate them. I just finished my coop and run and do not have the funds to have something elaborate. Any ideas how to keep them separate in the existing set up or do I need to build another coop?
Thanks
Ed

Some people keep Silkies or other bantams with large fowl such as Orpingtons, but many find it is best to house them separately. Crested breeds such as Silkies seem to have a particularly hard time of it. Evidently the crest is an attractive thing to peck. But I am only speaking from having read many posts here, not experience. You realy won't know how it will go til you try it. One thing about it, if you get Orps, they have a reputation for being a docile breed, and easily bullied. I had a few hatchery Buff Orps, and this was certainly true for them.
