Thinking about getting parakeets...

Yep, I'm planning on the getting the cheap American ones.
Those ones are great too! They’re the kind I’ve always had and I love mine! my current male is actually quite husky/big (he’s not fat though, I watch that) so I think he might be half and half or something maybe as he’s bigger than his companion haha

I wish you lived closer cuz I think I could spare a couple

Good late morning, everyone!

I got some money for Christmas, and was told if I clean up my room really well, I can get a parakeet.

Here are some things I've read/heard so far:
Seed, pellet, fruit, and veggie diet

A cage that is preferably longer than it is tall- no round cages

Different kinds of perches

Let them spend some time out of their cages

Does anyone have some really good tips on parakeets? Right now I'm thinking 2 males from a pet store like Petco. I've also heard that they need a vet once in a while. My dad had a couple parakeets growing up, and I doubt his ever got taken to a vet, and I don't want to spend money on that.

Thanks for your help!
I once got a parakeet from Petco, and it was very mean. I would recommend getting a hand raised bird, they are much sweeter. Though I never got a hand raised bird myself, my friends have, and they have a sweet and cuddly bird.
