Thinking of cutting hair short...

If it's a cut from my favorite stylist, I will pay whatever price he asks for, ROFL. $10? Sure. $50? Here you go! I have driven 800 miles with that as the "real" reason for my visit...so, I guess depending on gas prices, I might have paid $150 for that cut. It was worth it...

(I did combine it with a visit to family...however, it did play a role in my decision to travel!)

Momagain, I say find a style you really like and go for it! If you end up not liking it, remember that it's just hair and it grows back.

I went from having hair down to the small of my back to 2 inches on my head all in one blow. Donated 24" of hair, cut off another 4" and honestly I liked it a lot. It was easier to manage and play with. I never let it get beyond 4" for 4 years, and I would have kept it like that if it weren't for one thing.
Everyone thought I was male.

I don't really mind being mistaken for a guy at first glance but some people just didn't catch on that I'm female (feminine voice, girls clothes, boobs). I'm apparently a very sweet guy and a bit of an unintentional lady killer.

It took me a while to catch on to the flirting but when I did it was very awkward to explain that I'm a girl. A few refused to believe me and had to be told by several others that I wasn't lying.

When it gets warmer I may chop my hair down again because I really did like having it short. I'll just have to wear girlier clothes and hope for the best.

I cut my hair back when I had 1 toddler and 1 baby. Yeah, never again. It was HORRID. I couldn't do ANYTHING to get it back off my face, or away from grabby baby hands. Plus, gak, I should have known better, my mother never cut my hair, I have super super curly hair short. I had triangle head for years growing it back out.

I can now just sit on the ends if I leave my hair loose, and it's still curly. It's a hassle some days, but it's not yet been a hassle every flipping day for 4 years, so I don't want to cut it yet.

Short hair is SO much easier... but growing it back out is a PAIN. So be sure you want to deal before you go in. I've had uber short (even shorter than the blonde above) then grow out to shoulder length, then get sick of it and off it goes back and forth for years now.

Nice pics everyone! I think long hair is more versatile, and short hair more upkeep as far as keeping it trimmed to maintain a really short style, and bedhead issues. When mine was short it could be styled lots of different ways because of the cut, but not as many ways as when it's long. It's naturally curly so either way it's easy to style with a good cut, and when I want a straight style I just use an iron. I do LOVE very short, sassy styles, just not maintaining them.

Versatile wise... mine is pretty open... no product vs gel vs mousse vs pomade makes a huge difference in texture and even effects color.. and also makes it possible to do everything from sleek to spikey depending on the need. Also with ubershort you can experiment with colors without risk of frying and ruining long lovely hair... so once you find what you like you can grow it out with that.

Really depends SO much on attitude... if you can embrace the zany (least that's the nice words I've been called) then you'll rock... ala Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, Charlize Theron, and more recently Emma Watson...

If you can't embrace it... well, you'll be submerged in all the feelings of the people around you... positive and negative... in addition to your own self-consciousness.

I have noticed that short hair looks better on women with longer necks and oval vs round faces. All the pictures with the nicest looking cuts also had long necks. Short hair looks hot on the right women. My DW had long hair and got it cut off because it was a pain to deal with. I was afraid I would have to try to be sincere when I wasn't. I'm not very good at that. I saw it when I got home and I loved it. Shows off her great neck and face.
