Thinking of Moving...

I have lived in a few of these states (NJ, PA, WI, AZ, WA) and have good friends and family that have either lived or currently lives in some of the others. (CA, CO, FL, IL, ME, MN, NY, OK, TX, VA, UT, KY, ND, SD, MI, NM) I can throw in my 0.02 cents based on my observations. I m a country girl at heart, love animals more than people and truly live each moment to the fullest. I had many troubling years growing up and and my first marriage was miserable; so I learned to move on and make the best of everything. Happiness is truly self made. With that being said....

*California - I would avoid California like the plague. Too expensive, too many illegals, ridiculously corrupt state and local Governments and everyone is in such a hurry!!

*Colorado - Depends on where you live, parts are extremely liberal, to a fault. Beautiful country, but you pay a premium price for it. Many cities DO have BSL in place, so be sure to do your homework!

*Florida - Too hot, too humid, too many bugs, too many exotic critters.

*Illinois - Cold winters in most of Illinois with lots of snow. Steer clear of the Chicago area.

*Maine - Pretty country, again premium price.

*Minnesota - God awful winters!

*New Jersey - Spent 12 of my first 15 years there. Property taxes are outrageous. Went back about 10 years ago, wouldn't live there again.

*New York - Upstate is beautiful, higher taxes too though.

*Oklahoma - It's OK. Not much to see, not fond of it personally.

*Pennsylvania - Born in PA, wouldn't live there. Lots of racial tension in some parts. White supremist groups trying to get a stronghold.

*Texas - Popular place have lots of friends that live there, but not for me. Too many people, too much of a hurry, too yuppified and cookie cutter lifestyle.

*Washington - Seattle area too expensive and too many crack-pot tree huggers, too much rain. HOWEVER, the eastern part of the state is a while different world. No state income tax, cost of living is low, housing affordable, laid back people for the most part.

Have you considered northern Idaho?

I would contact the local Animal Control group in any area you are considering and find out if they are considering BSL and also some of their regulations. They vary so much from city to city, and county and state.

hey, if you end up moving to texas, and you somehow end up living near a boy named kenneth silcox, can you tell him morgan from michigan says hi?

Upstate New Yorker here (Capital District area). It's beautiful and rural here, and we have plenty of small towns to choose from. However, our tax rates are pretty nasty, and the economic climate isn't all that great.

We have been looking into Ocala Florida (northern racehorses go there for winter vacation

) LOTS of properties with acreage really cheap...under 150.000 and I am sure I saw some rentals as well....craigslist ocala.
Just don't take the ones we are looking at

I love Washington all together.

I was raised in Seattle and love it there cause my family is there....it does rain there a lot.

I however live in Eastern Washington and have since 1991 and I am not in Spokane they get a lot of rain is seems too not as much as Seattle but more then I do.

I hate how when someone hears of Washington they automatically think Seattle/rain not true at all for Eastern Washington. I really think it should be a divided state as far as taxes and such but that is mo. Also want to mention in Seattle you on the earthquake fault line.

A lot of farmers here in Eastern Washington too. A lot farm/labor work and juvenile work.

Some cities I would look into if I were just moving here would be, Tri cities, Moses Lake (which I am very close to), Spokane, Post falls or Couer de' lane, Idaho (which are very close to Spokane).

Good luck!

I was born in S California, grew up in the Bay Area (San Jose) and moved to SW Wa State (just a breath from Portland OR). I love and miss Northern CA, if you could break it from its southern half it would be fantastic but then there would be more tax issues. Napa north are just beautiful ...

Anyway, moving to WA was a real adjustment ( I was 15) and I have spent many years as an adult traveling the SW, NW and West Coast.... visited some to the East as well. I am always so happy to come home to WA. I don't mind the rain and the lower temps. While most of country has had bad job related issued I take the reports here with a grain of salt. Work wise coming from the petroleum industry you can really see the underlying economy. The west coast has maintained a higher fuel price and its not just due to road taxes.. the economy can afford it while they don't really like it. House prices have dropped down again. We do not have a State Income tax. Sales tax instead.... Good schools. No issues with weather related disasters, no poisonous critters to speak of. In this state you can snow ski in June and the Indian Summers in the fall are beautiful. I am a CA that will never go back and don't see myself leaving the PNW anytime soon either.... I can drive to Seattle for football and great food. Drive east and enjoy the high dessert and sun.. Get a little off of I-5 and its not very populated in any one direction. My second favorite area is the northern parts of Nevada but they don't have the ocean.

I can't even think of anyone I know from Idaho that does not want to move back

and many come and go. Boise seems to get very high marks with folks that have moved to the Portland/Vancouver area. I just can't entertain living some place without driving access to the ocean

DH was born in Idaho but loves it on the west side of the Cascades.

Grew up on the East coast; Fl, Ga, SC. Really hot and humid.

Got stationed in Wa (near Seattle) several years ago and fell in love with the countryside, but couldn't abide the overabundance of yuppie, stuck up big city group steadilly saturating the smaller cities (Kingston, Paulsbo) . Never thot I'd live in snow again, but as several have said, get east of the Cascades and you're in 'high desert'. LOTS of small towns, LOTS of orchards and more and more wineries. Good down to earth folks.

Now, Governor Gregoire? Yeah. THAT area could use some work...
