Yep, I love my Muscovy, lots cleaner than "regular" ducks, I am in love with their personality, and they are super tasty. Also, they come in great colors.
Everything else is done by adding 1/2 pint jars or 6-8oz cups of water to raise humidity & taking them out to lower.
Didn't some of you'll say that you do dry __HATCHES__?
The old incubator that I was hoping to use as a hatcher is NOT behaving, so all of my eggs are together in the same good and wonderful new incubator.
They are all different ages, and I am running it at about 34% humidity and spot on 99.5 to 99.6 forced air.
So....... I am not sure how to rotate some eggs and not others. There isn't enough space to put the eggs in egg cartons, and since they are shipped, and I was short on space, they are all standing upright, not on their sides.
Dunno.
Some were supposed to hatch today, nothing happened....
Point is:
Will any hatch at this humidity? After they pip, can I wrap the pipped ones in a damp paper towel? Should I compromise and just up the humidity to 50%???
wow that is a dilemma i know some people have had chicks hatch around this humid but it is more rare. The chicks that didn't hatch most likely got shrink wrapped etc if you can check to see if any have internally pipped yet. But the humidity needs to be around 65-70% when hatching. Can you make a cooler bator for the other egg's until the others have hatched? They are't expenive to make and are better then nothing
yeah sometimes i saw a chick get shink wrapped in a corner away from a fan before through that why i said that.I love the tail waggles that they do..
my grandparents used shot glasses.. kinda funny to see these non drinkers with a big collection of them too...
I have been hatching everything dry for awhile now.. as for the wet paper towel.. I only use that on ones who make a large pip then take a break (haven't had any of those in a while either)... otherwise everything is dry as a bone since the humidity will rise naturally when the first one hatches
shrink wrapping is more of a fan placement issue than a humidity issue... if the chick dies before externally pipping then it points to bacterial issues or carbon dioxide poisoning
that is so cool my 3rd grade techer tryed to hatch us sme egg's once but the janitor kept turning off the incubtor at night.I have 2 internal pips! Lots of cheeping going on. I'm soooo excited. We told my class today that if they weren't quiet the chicks would be afraid to come out of their shells. Hehe. They were amazingly quiet all afternoon. I'm reall hoping something hatches soon. I don't want my class to miss the whole she-bang.
I leave ALL the vents in my 'bator wide open during lockdown. If I don't, the humidity goes bonkers and I get condensation in a heartbeat. As long as temp and humidity stays correct, I see no reason not to leave any vents open. I find it helps the chicks dry off and fluff up better if the excess can escape. My lockdown is tommarro and i have visons of chicks in my headI did a candeling eleryer on today and unless my light was flickering the whole time i saw movement in the blue bantam egg
But what i need to know is can a true lockdown happen with a vent on the incubator like mine?![]()
This vent is VERY important to my incubator if it's not open to some degree 24\7 the temps in the incubator can reach 106F can i safely leave it open during lockdown? Or it important that the incubator is compeltly closed for the durion of the lockdown? i can get the humitdy up to 70 with little issues.
