~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

Lock-down for chicken eggs is today right? I am going to do it right before I head to work, I set some eggs on april 15th because I wasn't sure how well my broody would do and I wanted a backup plan.

Winteree - Does your incubator have a thermostat? Others are right, nearing the end of incubation the oxygen demand of the eggs increases and even though you need higher humidity, it is recommended to have vent plugs open for air exchange.

I have 2 internal pips! Lots of cheeping going on. I'm soooo excited. We told my class today that if they weren't quiet the chicks would be afraid to come out of their shells. Hehe. They were amazingly quiet all afternoon. I'm reall hoping something hatches soon. I don't want my class to miss the whole she-bang.
YEAHHHHH!!!!! Oh I usre hope the kids get to see a chick today!!! They will be thrilled!!

My lockdown is tommarro and i have visons of chicks in my head

But what i need to know is can a true lockdown happen with a vent on the incubator like mine?

This vent is VERY important to my incubator if it's not open to some degree 24\7 the temps in the incubator can reach 106F can i safely leave it open during lockdown? Or it important that the incubator is compeltly closed for the durion of the lockdown? i can get the humitdy up to 70 with little issues.
Are you have heard, leave this open. IF possible add more sources of moisture. WIth more surface area to wick. I like to use sponges because the tiny pockets that make up the sponge increases the surface area tremendously. ANd sponges can be mircrowaved to sterilize. Goood luck!!!!!!!

Quote: If the air cells were on track by day 18 for chickens, and 25 for turkeys, than you can go ahead and go for increasing the humidity.

I need to candle all my eggs again to check on progress of the air cells. THe weather has been playing with my incubator, again, and it has been running hotter than usual which is a good thing. BECAUSE . . . . . it allows the lid to be cracked more, and that in theory increases the air flow and the eggs dry down better . . . .despite what the %RH says.

Yeah i hear ya our recent cold streak had me putting a heating pad under the incubator to keep it at the right temp

. I compenstate by checking on the temps every few hours sometimes sooner if it's hot or colder(like it's been lately) outside. i just poked about 2 dozen more holes in the incubator around the eggs and i just started lockdown so i hope i'll get to see some fluffy babys by monday
