My lockdown is tommarro and i have visons of chicks in my head I did a candeling eleryer on today and unless my light was flickering the whole time i saw movement in the blue bantam egg But what i need to know is can a true lockdown happen with a vent on the incubator like mine? This vent is VERY important to my incubator if it's not open to some degree 24\7 the temps in the incubator can reach 106F can i safely leave it open during lockdown? Or it important that the incubator is compeltly closed for the durion of the lockdown? i can get the humitdy up to 70 with little issues.

Keeping the vent open is actually very important. Those chicks need lots of oxygen for hatch.

I have 2 internal pips! Lots of cheeping going on. I'm soooo excited. We told my class today that if they weren't quiet the chicks would be afraid to come out of their shells. Hehe. They were amazingly quiet all afternoon. I'm reall hoping something hatches soon. I don't want my class to miss the whole she-bang.

Can you tell me when you set them? I was supposed to lockdown today, but the Hatcher wasn't staying at temp, so I will get them in tomorrow. Some of the peeps on here say they just wait for an internal Pip to move them. I've never seen one, but that's because I've never candled after day 18 or now 25 for my Turkeys. They were moving today though.

I leave ALL the vents in my 'bator wide open during lockdown. If I don't, the humidity goes bonkers and I get condensation in a heartbeat. As long as temp and humidity stays correct, I see no reason not to leave any vents open. I find it helps the chicks dry off and fluff up better if the excess can escape.

yay hopefully the lockdown and hatch will go on without a hitch

Though i hope their are more chicks hatching then just the one in the blue bantam egg

Out of my first set of eggs I have one perfectly healthy and fully hatched and maybe two more........ That is it.

My pips are chicken eggs. They were set the 10th. I had a day of low temps so I'm afraid they are a day behind. My duck egg looks great! He's really moving around.

As others mentioned this should be fine, you actually want vents open for hatch.

I looked on eBay and got one for only a few dollars.  It was shipped from China but the service was outstanding and the little scale weighs in tiny increments so is really good for tracking egg weights.

As others mentioned this should be fine, you actually want vents open for hatch.

yeah i was just curious i have read serval hatching guides and tutorals and most just don't say yay or nay their is some talk of vent plugs and such but mine is homemade

ouch. i only have 6 six eggs hatching but throgh the candleings i havent seen any signs of life(untill today). the egg's got darker but i didn't see any viens(or blood rings) and no movement. heck i can't even find the air cell on one of the RIR egg's i really hope all that work didn't go for nawt the whole reason i'm even trying to hatch anything is because my feedstore don't have the breeds i want and i don't like the idea of putting a live animal in the mail. i hope both our hatchings go well
