DH asked if I had enough room in the LG for shipped eggs coming at the end of the week-- um . . . not likely! lol He opened THAT door and I pounced on the opportunity to fire up the Henny Penny coolerbator and now I can set lots of eggs.

Im still woring on my Sally Style Cabinet Cooler-bator. I really wanted it to be done this weekend but I don't think so *sigh* I hope it gets done soon. I already have one incubator stacked and eggs in lockdown and chick orders coming out my ears. My cousin just text me last night and her family decided to get some chicks( I never expected them to want chickens lol) So now I am going to gift her some chicks.

The next two we will do at the same time, each step x2

Any suggestions to the one I will turn into a hatcher? how do cabinets actually have trays that let the heat circulate? I need to research this, but if anyone has images of baskets and such from a cabinet I would appreciate seeing them up close!

Alright it looks like I am in by proxy. My larger Chestobator was giving me fits and then I shorted out the thermostat for it. So I built a Aquabator (aquarium) but it is smaller and stuffed full with the Easter Hatch. So Donna is hatching my turkey eggs for me and some of her SBEL's for tutors. These are 9 Slates or RP/Slates from Silkie Sensation. Should be about 6 SBEL's.

what is SBELs for tutors? meaning to teach the turkey? sorry I forget lingo in a year

Judging by the others in the bin, it is either an EE or a speckled sussex! LOL! J/K

All I know is that it came from Ideal Hatchery in a shipment of mixed straight run chicks.

I would assume it is a full blooded (not mixed) something. I will appreciate it if you all could help me identify it.

Out of these eggs.. 99% are shipped in.. for the last batch of ancona (also shipped eggs) I got a 100% hatch... some of the others are looking the same way. I did get a box of eggs the other day that came in leaking.. the guy used no packing to speak of and every single egg was smashed.. so needless to say that one went into the trash! And I was sent a box of rotten eggs too.. Seller stated their ducks had been laying like crazy.. when I asked about the size of the air cells and told him that a few had exploded in the box his reply was "those eggs are fresh, they were laid this year, 2014".. so I asked exactly when they were laid he said "oh, sometime in January I think.. but they are still good for hatching"!

For the muscovy.. if you get the French Whites.. they can reach 12 pounds in 12 weeks...

and that baby goat is Fiona.. she was born in February and on the coldest nights she got to spend in the house to help her stay toasty warm.. now I have to listen to our parrot demanding "where's Fiona?" "Maya wants to see Fiona baby".. lol

French Whites?? Havent heard of those. THat is a really good growth rate!! Wow.

Oh poor Maya-- maybe Fiona can come in for a play date. THough I can see Maya increaing her demand until Fiona has become a house goat. DO they have diapers for goats??

SBEL - Super Blue Egg Layers

Tutors - Are chicks that hatch just before or at the same time as poults, they are used to help the poults learn to eat and drink.

The American Dairy Goat Association standard call for Does to be more more than 22 1/2 inches at the withers (our tallest is 21) Bucks the standard is 23 1/2 inches. Adult weight is approx 60 lbs give or take.

Our dogs, the Icelandic Sheepdogs are herding/farm dogs and are very good with the goats and poultry. They'll put them in the right place and are in charge. The schipperke is vaguely aware that the goats and poultry live out there. The Siberian Husky, if he wasn't old I wouldn't turn my back on him, he looks at the chicken run like its a lobster tank at a restaurant.

Fresh is laid this year? That's incredible isn't it? Using that theory he could sell them as fresh hatching eggs up through December.

but since my ESS kill my chickens would they go after a goat? I thought dogs were the number one hazard to goat farmers? I would hate to get everything set up and then have to sell them! Perhaps I could rent a goat?

Actually those are my eating eggs. I would be mortified if an egg exploded for a customer. MORTIFIED. I just received a note from a customer that has 23/26 with movement. I am totally thrilled for her as the last box of eggs toured up and down the east coast and when they arrived weeks later . . . . they couldn't get tossed fast enough.
