I'm so excited!!! I just got my turkey eggs from Arielle.

That was super fast! How long should I let them sit before putting them in the bator? I want to try to hatch all of them if possible and I only have 4, so I want to do everything right. Also, my class is really excited about the chicks hatching this week. I felt like such an amature talking to them about hatch expectations and how long it might take for the chicks to get out of the shells. I think I'm more of a wreck than they are. I have a student on "peep patrol" sitting next to the bator. My principal came and asked me if she could take a few home- that was awesome!!

I personally let my shipped eggs settle for 24-48 hours.

Once incubating starts I personally incubate upright and do not turn shipped eggs for 3-5 days depending on how the air cell looks.

I would say at least 24 hours. When I did that I had no issues with saddle cells or them not healing. But with the last batch I rushed and pot them in after 12 hours and my cells are all over the place with saddles and some not healed yet 2-3 weeks into incubation. I do start turning after 12 hours tho.

Awesome! I'll let them sit a day or so and put them in a carton. I have just the 1 incubator anyways so that will keep the chicks off the eggs. I'm soooo excited!

Day 14 candleing nothing to report

their is little if any change inbetween the eggs from day 7, 10, and day 14 candleing. i think i payed a stupid amount of money for unfrertized eggs

but i'm not going to jump to conculeions yet. can anyone tell me if any of these egg's are "good"?
RIR egg (No "air cell" present, no veins, no movement)

There are a lot of reasons an egg might not develop, especially shipped eggs. I wouldn't be too quick to jump to the conclusion that they were not fertilized.

I don't "lockdown" - I never heard that expression until I came onto BYC.

I change conditions slightly for "hatch".  I turn off the turner, raise the humidity and lower the temperature a degree.

I am not real strict on when I do that.  Usually it is about 2 days before their due date.  Sometimes I wait until the first has internally pipped.

I'm the exact same way. Mostly because I've gotten lazy about it after hatching thousands of birds now.

My broody hen is still dedicated as ever. She has food in front of her but doesn't eat much unless I hand her while she is on the eggs. She's lost a lot of weight over the extended broody cycle so I hope she is successful for all of her work.

The other day I opened up the coop to find 1 of the 9 eggs pecked into and partially eaten. I am not sure if it was caused by the two young pullets i put in with her(who get along with her just fine) or if it was a rat that climbed in - 1 day later I found a rat poop there under the water bottle where the egg was broken into. I cleaned it out and so far no other broken eggs. I also took out the pullets and further rat proofed the broody coop. Hope the rest of them keep on developing.

I haven't updates Mich. Its been really busy her with building coops and such. I started with 60 eggs. Down to 56 on day 12 today. One still very questionable and 2 that have movement but very blurry veins, we will see what happens with those.
