I don’t have any photos of chickens really playing dead, but my Java, Peeper, has nearly given me a heart attack before. It’s gotten super hot lately, and these super smart chickens decide to go lay in the sun in the middle of the afternoon. Every time I see one laying there I run over and start yelling their name. They usually fly up and start squawking, which completes my heart attack. 🤦‍♀️ I love these birds, but sometimes I wish they were a little bit more blessed in the brains department! Here’s little blind Gidget playing dead, not quite as good as Peeper.

My old pony (bless her) was down in the paddock last Fall and the other horses came in, she didn’t 😳

I yelled and yelled, nothing. Finally I ran over to her screaming Lulu! When I got next to her her eyes flew open she scrambled up and just about killed me running over top of me to get to the barn!

Seems in her old age she was going deaf! Silly me!

How about seeing this on the barn cam one night! The eyes open freaked me out! And the angle of her head!
