This chicken is not dead

Years ago, we had a duck that got underfoot of our mare ... but only once. The ducks wandered around the horses all the time, so the big goof either didn't pay attention or just never even noticed. Apparently mud and mallards squish about the same.
I've seen a cow do the same to a chicken

Well seeing as how I brought MG into the flock when I brought those two Polish chicks home, I can’t in all good conscience rehome any cockerels. Or even bring anything in unless it’s vaccinated.

I would not want to send the wee monkey to a new home and he infect their chickens. So he will stay, and who knows if they other two are girls or boys, you know silkies - crows or lays an egg. The only reason I am speculating he’s a he is the presence of those wattles. Never seen wattles like that on a silkie this young before!

And of course same situation with those Polish - they could very well be boys also! So I could have brought the wee turnips here and infected my flock for nothing if they are boys.

Bad Kelly! I felt sorry for them, I know better than go to a livestock sale. That’s how I would end up with useless horses in the past!
They're not truly useless. They're poorly used, poorly cared for creatures who needed a softer place to land. We've had a few of those over the years, too, and they usually more than made up for the cost of their care in other ways.

Cost way too much money and gave little in return mostly.

I have had 3horses that were outstanding and worth their weight in gold. An additional 2 that were adequate and maybe 50 that were useless. Still have 2 here.

Truly likes to break loose at night and pester Reenie. Both are useless riding horses. Pretty to look at but useless otherwise.

I now keep Truly’s door shut - no stall guard for her anymore.

You say useless but I hear " love, love" everytime you talk about them.

I'm going to have to catch up with this thread because my chickens and my dog have caused me numerous heart attacks by playing dead. My dog I actually had to go touch him to wake him up.
My dogs would scare me too except their snoring and tooting is too loud to mistake them for dead.

I know what you are saying. No one leaves my yard either.
But, wait! What's that about useless horses? I had no idea there was such a thing! 🤣

Some horses want to just be pets. My friend had a horse like that. His name was Beauregard, a gorgeous bay warmblood. He was a pleasure on the ground: he loved people, he stood perfectly for grooming and the farrier, "joined up" and followed you everywhere.

He was smart and knew so many tricks on command that I lost count of them. One was this: he laid his ears back and snorted and pawed at the ground then charged face-first into a halter and came to an abrupt stop and my friend would shout "Olé!" 😄

He'd stand calm and square for tacking up and mounting but he did not want to go into the corrals or on trails. It was a struggle to get him to do any work. He was healthy with no physical issues, his dressage saddle was custom made and fit well, he simply wanted to be a pampered pet. He was entertaining so I guess not really useless but most people want to ride their horses at least sometimes.

Golly, was she okay?
