This crummy Sumatra came from Ideal in TX

After checking Cackle’s website it looks like you got a Black Minorca.

By any chance do you mean Ideal in TX? Cackle is in Missouri. The birds I've had from Ideal have been, well, less than ideal as far as breed type goes.

Yes so sorry you are correct I did order from Ideal. The hatchery near Austin thinking these would be heat tolerant birds.

I've noticed this too. I will go as far to say as Cackle does sell some show quality at times.

Go figure. Either it's a less than pet quality bird or a mix up. Sometimes that happens.

Well as day olds they all looked like Sumatra chicks they had the right markings. I have no idea how this one turned out so ugly.

Also good to know! Because I know that one of the feed stores in town gets their birds from Ideal. Easier to resist temptation.

Ideal screwed up my order this year too. I was supposed to get 1 Production Red Male and 5 Production Black females... instead I got all Production Reds... in the same Order I was supposed to get one Buff Orpington male but 2 Buff Chickens came in the order. It wasn't like they sent an extra, I had a total of 25 chicks, some chicks I ordered didn't even end up in the order. I only heard good things about Ideal but my first experience with them showed that they mix up orders easily. Oh well I will just accept what I have because I still received 25 chickens even if I did not get exactly what I ordered.

@Compost King - I might guess that they actually made substitutions, rather than errors. I think most of the hatcheries have some fine print saying that if they don't have exactly what you want when you order, they'll substitute something similar.

Or it could be a lot of mixups.

I agree... I doubt its a Sumatra, but there's a possibility she is just a really cruddy Sumatra.

Well this one came with 7 others that are sumatra. Guess I will know more at point of lay.
