This is WAR I tell you! WAR!!!!

I have the plastic pvc feeder mounted beside the door in one of my coops. I love it, but it doesn't allow for more than 3-4 hens to crowd around.

I have over 30 hens and so far I see they are wasting too much feed out of the other feeders I have.

Guess I'm gonna have to come up with a better plan. I feed at several different stations because I worry everyone won't get a fair share.....

Nobody has the perfect feeder ????

Probably not, because none of use probably have perfect chickens with table manners IYKWHIM.
I have hanging feeders that are head high and they sling the pellets out of there like crazy. No manners what so ever.

*With just 1 hen, I use plastic water jugs for feed & water. Cut out the handle section. CHOOK THROWS TO THE LEFT, so I turn the jug til her throw is blocked (mostly) and the feed falls back in. I'm thinking Arizona tea jugs might work even better. They're narrower-- less room to throw.

I like the PVC type feeder but mine has two down pipes connected by a longer feeder opening for added room. I put laying mash in one side and BOSS in the other. They can't perch on it and poop in it and it is high enough off the floor to just allow the hens to eat and not scratch or throw. I am going to modify the style somewhat and attempt to construct a similar thing for their water. Anyone tried this yet?

I mix layer mash and pellets with water, and feed enough for 10 minutes of feeding.

The rest of the day they free range.

If I leave them food in the feeders, the sparrow, blackbirds and rats eat it.

I feed 2-3 times a day.

I've had no problems at all with waste with mine and I don't even hang it anymore since I built the new coop. They don't sling the pellets out at all.

Actually, MY problem is that the food doesn't flow well into the tray. Every morning I have to give it a good shake to get the food to fill up the tray again. I"ve even tried cutting bigger holes on the sides but that still doesn't help. If anyone knows the solution to this one I'd love to hear it!

I have the same problem with mine. Do you have a cone in the bottom to get the feed to flow?

I've won the war with chick feeders. Now they've moved up to a bigger feeder and the war starts all over again. The big girls are more of a challenge. But I have an idea to try.
