The dome lid and the fan, etc inside makes headroom a problem, if you need to place eggs upright But I managed to find the "perfect" arrangement for them all finally. I'm going to candle them all in about a week and see how they are doing. Again at day 10 or so and then I'll toss any that aren't looking good. This is going to be a long 3 weeks!

I can imagine! It sounds like a pain! But glad you found an arrangement that works!! And hopefully they develop and hatch!! And I bet it will be! But it will be over before you know it!

Aw yeah that is definitely worrisome but if they start developing then that is a good sign at least!! And I bet at least the younger ones will develop and maybe you’ll get a miracle and the older ones will too. Will he give you more eggs if those don’t develop?

And I think I would be inpatient too, even if there was no problem!!! I am hoping to get quail soon and I just love candling. Even candling those eating eggs was cool to me. Love watching them light up lol so I am sure I will probably candle way too much and too early but you at least have a very legitimate reason to be inpatient and want to check.

The days go so slow when you're incubating! I want to candle the chicken eggs to see how they are doing, but it's too early. A couple more days and then

I showed a friend how the ducklings are doing two days ago and the little embryo was bouncing around in the egg I can't wait to meet the little peepers.

Candling for someone new is always exciting. You get to see their wonder.

You can always do the @Texas Kiki method and candle every 4-12 hours. "just do it real quick", she will say. She has gotten good at "candling real quick".

If you have a clear wall incubator, someone rigged it to candle THROUGH the incubator wall. Very ingenious. "Give a hard task to a lazy person and they will find an easier way to do it."

Speaking of which, I never got a high powered flashlight. The 500 lumen is good with light shells. The quail eggs proved a challenge.

Oh yes and watching chicks hatch with someone who never experienced it I remember a few years ago DS had a bunch of little friends from around the town at our farm and I had chicks hatching in the incubator, so I called them all in to come watch a chick kick out of the shell. The looks on their faces

LOL If @Texas Kiki were here we'd know exactly what's going on in those eggs! I love candling too, but I try to not overdo it and give it a few days in-between, but with these guys I may make it a bit more frequent as I want to see how the shipped eggs do.

Not that I'm encouraging this , Kiki would want you to wait until it is very dark or in a dark closet. For the best pictures, you understand. We do want pictures.

Real quick with steady hands.


I have found that if your light is bright enough you don't have to wait until night time but night time helps when you are trying to get clear pictures.

Night time is starting to come later and later here now. Soon we'll be seeing 10:30pm sunsets again. My kitchen is not very dark, unfortunately, so I have to wait for at least semi-dark before I can do a decent candle session.

I'm thinking day after tomorrow. There won't be much to see by now. Back to what I said earlier about the long days and long wait!
