This really irks me (Show Quality VS. Non-Show)

lil grey....how many of these pets can you handle? I have customers coming back to me wanting to find homes for alot of the extra boys too. When you get chicks, its that lovely 50/50 ratio... Most of them only want females to begin with. I personally raise out about 100 for myself and make cuts at the end of fall. the rest are sold as chicks in between. Cockerels (unless they are show stoppers and better than their sires) are sold off in between to make room for more young stock. If you want to pay the shipping, I am sure there could be lots flooding your way.

Probably can't have too many roosters, but you never know. I can never say no to 1) a rooster and 2) a silkie (or a marans)
... so I may be in trouble Hahaha, I have a heart for roos <3 no one else loves them, but me!!!
Surprisingly, I find wonderful homes for my boys, but I get greedy. Turk is the only rooster I would give up ONLY if someone gave him a palace to live in

Yeah, that's wht bothered me... 4H helps kids to gain responsibilities, earn confidence, learn things, etc. etc.
Some parents just give 'em a half grown calf or heck, even a full grown animal and expect them to learn from taht.

Please explain the guy who purchased 60 hatchery silkies... he was excited because he was getting them cheap or thought you were trying to "scam" him outta money for paying more for silkies (though better quality) than the cheaper ones he got from a hatchery???

MEH! That's what gets me!!! URGHHH!!

I've bought birds before, then sold them after awhile granted they were ornamental pheasants and I changed my mind about what birds I want to breed, but never make my money what I spent on them back. I have also bought OEGB hens for $20 with show potential but I mostly wanted broody hens. When I emailed the lady I got her from back about SQ birds she said if you want SQ your going need to be willing to spend at least $50 on the bird. Then I'm feel sorry for the poster who sold the silkies to the guy and now he is real selling them for more if I were you I'd bid on them.

Hatcheries sell birds based on this ideal drawing. They aren't showing pics of their actual stock. I know of at least 1 big hatchery that went around to some of the southern shows and took pics of other peoples birds. Sure those are ideal representations of the breed. Is that what they are breeding for and what people think they are getting? What they really get is usually a far cry from those perfect pictures...

The guy today was proud because he's getting 60 chicks from a hatchery that are supposed to look like a good silkie. Its a pretty noted hatchery in IA and the chicks are like $3 something each. He thought he was getting a great deal. When I pointed out what most specimans from these large hatcheries turn out like, he was appalled over buying something like that. He seemed pretty set on the fact that these are all going to look like their drawing on the website. I sell my chicks for $5 for anything under 4 weeks of age and he seemed to think I was vastly overpriced. It isn't like buying car insurance...

Thank you Laurie! Its taken a few years to get to this point. I just took over granny's garage for more brooder pens. This is what a totally mechanically inept person could put together... You've also seen my barn pens. If it wasn't so darn cold I could sit out there all day.

Here's my housepet right now too... Lil too cold for him outside yet.

** I also added a 10' long x 4' tall finch aviary in the house. You'll have to stop by when you get by this direction.

I have some really nice Onagadori's and had 3 chicks for sale a bit ago and although the people where blown away with the looks of the parents they didn't want to pay the price for them. Wanted them for free. Needless to say, I still have them.

You know, if you give enough information about them, someone is bound to want them. Make them personable, give a little story about them. Let them know the truth!

I posted about my two BLRW and told them how these were my babies, and that they rarely crowed (true) and that they would follow me from heck and back if need be (and they would) and that they were two bachelors who are good together and would protect their girls.

I've had tons of calls so I get to pick and choose which homes they go to...

Of course, I think I'm the Rooster Lady... I have randome people calling me up for good protective roosters all teh time
