I found it very strange, too. I wish I had a picture of him in later years to see if there was gold/red color in his hackles. I seem to recall Karen mentioning he had some, but I can't swear to that.

I saw no clue that there was anything amiss until he began to grow up-the eggs were almost identical to all the other Buff Orp eggs she sent, some of which came from pullets so the size was not all that out of place. When he hatched, I noticed he was blue, so I thought she just mixed a blue Orp egg up with the buffs.

Wyandottes have rose combs, not pea. Pea comb plus rose comb equals cushion comb.
