Good job successfully incubating one of these little buggers. Oh wait am I speaking to soon, it could still... Just kidding, you probably will have a chick in the morning, just remember to make sure there is water in the trays
No peachick...It is still moving though. It might be too early but it hasn't cracked the egg any more than it was. I think it will hatch when we are gone so I hope my Grandma and my friends can take care of it.
We will be gone 4 days we are going down to Seminole for the Green Corn Festival and are flying there. I have to go even though I wanted to stay home with the hatching peachick or soon to be hatched peachick.
Here is an update...
Now that I am back from school, the hole is bigger, but it looks like the peachick's but is sticking out of the egg and when it pips it sounds a bit muffled still like the head is not close to the hole. Do we need to help it at all? If we get an eye dropper and put water droplets on the exposed membrane could that help? I hope the peachick can hatch soon, in 4 hours we will have to take it to my Grandma and we want it to hatch and dry off by then hopefully. My dad really wants to help it out but I told him it might be too early and we would certainly kill it if it was too early. My mom said while I was at school at one point the chick shook the egg violently and made a really loud mad screeching noise unlike the peeping it has been doing. She said it sounded frustrated.
Okay I just checked on the egg and the peachick has pipped down were its face is too, and we carefully got just the shell of to bridge the gap between the two holes. The membrane is a bit leathery so will it be fine if we use an eyedropper on it to soften it up?
While i have not hatched pea eggs i have hatched lots of other birds.
If it were me i would wait till this evening and if it is still like that i would help it out.
Here's what i do, run a sink of warm water and have some warm towels from the dryer waiting, i submerge the shell in the waster at gently spoon water around the inside of the shell being careful not to get water around the beak area, i then start chipping away the shell only and watch for bleeding, if all goes well by time you get most of shell off it should be moist enough to drop right out in your hand out of the membrane, i then place them in a warm towel and back in the hatch-er to dry.
thanks DM Farm! DM farm called and told me what to do and luckily we didn't see any blood and my mom chipped away at the egg unit the peachick could slide out. It had pooped in the egg already. I didn't realize how long their necks are! It is a bit tired and it tried to stand and it keeps peeping so I think it is okay. Now it just needs to dry.
We lowered the temp too.
Now I will go check on it, I am soo worried I am shaking! Lol I was shaking when DM farm was talking to me because I was worried.
