Thought I was gonna have a freezer full of deer meat...........

How would I know which meat or muscle is bad from impact? Heck I had one hit my car about 15 years ago and it was alive but it jumped up and ran away. It didnt go very far since the deer fell in the river and the guy that had seen the accident went out and got the deer and processed it. He told me if he was to get the deer out, he would have to charge me for it and his time to process it. I told him to keep it.

Now who got some deer sausage and deer burgers?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have processed roadkill before and I would do it again...so have my parents. My hubby is also a deer magnet and keeps a knife in his truck all the time just in case.

i wish people were more like you guys, no wanting to waste anything. my dh is a game warden, and you wouldnt believe, i mean you literally have no idea, the amount of waste he sees. as a matter of fact, he is in trial today on a case where a guy shot an d killed four elk, and was only going to take the hindquarters of one. he's in deep doo- doo.

the meat might not be good if the deer was hemmoraging inside , you would have to work quickly to keep it clean and edible , JMHO,
i would do it if it was sure the meat would be good.
I found one in my driveway a few years ago and she was still alive but seriously injured and i did not have a gun and hubby was not home , so I slit her throat , sounds gross , but hey , you gotta do what you gotta do . did not eat her as she was hemmoraging badly.

I am a roadkill queen. I cannot tell you the number I have seen hit and people keep driving. I have had to finish off a couple of them because they were suffering....ever try to strangle or choke a deer? It ain't an easy job but better than letting it lay there for hours dying slowly. Fresh kill, even with lots of bleeding and ruptures, can be saved but it takes work and immediate attention. You would have had to field dress it right there to save the meat.

Good for you for attempting to salvage the animal.

Even if it isn't "people edible" would it still be something that can be donated to a raptor center or wolf sanctuary type place???
