Tulip, my 3 yr. old buff cochin had a huge, hot lump between her legs, about the size of a grapefruit. I thought she had laid internally and my vet agreed and we prepared her for surgery. There was nothing in there. No eggs, no edema. Just alot of very yellow fat and her temp. was l05. She died during surgery. She just stopped breathing. We are sending her body to the diagnostic lab. Anyone ever have anything similar? And again, always the same question - Why is it always your favorite ones?

Can't say why it's always your favorite, but I do feel your pain. I got a sick one right now and I have no idea what's going on. She was fine yesterday. That's the way with chickens.

Hope you feel better soon.

!! I have a hen that is really bad hurt right now and I jus found her today!!! the wound was already hard and crusty so I am having to let it soften and then ima half to sew her up if she makes it!!! shes not my fav but she will be if she pulls through!!! I am prayin for you!!!

Necropsy Report - Congestive Heart failure and pulmonary edema. Her heart gave out. Not a thing I could've done. She would have died slowly. Thankfully she died under anesthesia and didn't know a thing. RIP Tulip, I miss you.

I'm really sorry about your hen. There are so many things that are beyond our control, no matter how stellar the care is that we give them.
