I guess opinions vary in Canada, too. I have lots of family there. I can't believe some of the stories I hear from them. Oh, btw, I have nothing against your looks.......................

I for one dont want universal healthcare. I dont want the government controlling anymore than they already do.

Just to let you know, I dont have health insurance. We out of pocket anything that we need. I need surgery but I would rather save up and pay for it myself than have the government be in charge, and decide if I really need it or not. Non of their business.

There is such thing as a medical Savings. That is the route we will go when we decide to get insurance.

But I have found that most doctors but not all, will work with you and charge you less if you are self pay.

what I really dread is having my medical records plastered all over the freaking WWW

I DO NOT WANT UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE. At 72 I am on medicare, have to pay a ded to see my dr, which has to be on their list of doctors,
They take my Medical directly from medicare I think it was around $97.00 this year, I pay an additional premium for prescription coverage, which has to be generic, I pay a co pay to see my dr. lab work, x rays I pay for. Oh and I make $4.84 to much for medicaid, so i live CHEAP, but i live and I think I do great. marrie

If you have health insurance you are, if you pay out of pocket you are. The only way you do not pay for everybody else is if you don't seek medical treatment. And even then you are paying taxes to medicare/medicaid so you still are.

I am often shocked by the everyone for themselves attitude that a lot of American have.....I thought we were a nation of Christians...look out for your neighbor, blessed are the poor ring a bell with anybody?

but at what cost? Being "christian" has nothing to do with supporting those that refuse to help themselves and take a free ride 7 days a week because "they can", sorry.

If someone is hungry, I will give them food - if they need clothing, I will gladly go through my own and I will share what I have with them, but....if that person is going to sit there day after day and say "Oh thats okay, I'll let the gov't pay for my 6 kids with 6 baby daddie's" - then no.. sorry, I'm not going to be very "christian" about that, perhaps I'll turn the other cheek in that instance and provide some sage words of wisdom at that point.

A nation of Christians? Where have you been the last 30 years, Mars?
