My chickens just all turned a year old and my rooster who normally doesn't bother me is now super aggressive. Is it because its spring and hes full of mating hormones? Will it stop? He is such a good rooster and takes amazing care of the girls so I want to keep him. I've raised them since they were 3 days old. He is a Black Austrolorp.

It might be that.
There's a good article on treating an aggressive rooster on here somewhere, but I can't remember the name of the article... sorry....

What is he doing? Is he making physical contact with you? Flogging? Spurring? How much of his nonsense are you willing to put up with? Do you have small kids at your house? If so, I wouldn’t take any chances. I have had hen only flocks, and they manage just fine without a rooster. (I am actually considering inviting my current rooster to dinner after he tried to kill one of my hens.) If you really want to keep him, this is what I would do. I would walk toward him every chance I get. Back him up. If he comes at you, walk confidently and swiftly at him until he moves away. I’d chase him away from the food and water now and then, just because I can. I would move him and move him and move him until he figures out that it’s best for him to just avoid me when he sees me coming. This is basically how I raise my cockerels and haven’t had a human aggressive one since I started doing it that way. That doesn’t guarantee that he will figure it out, and if that’s the case, you’ll have a decision to make.

He has started trying to flog me on occasion but I have chased him off or caught him and carried him around. He's never done that before, just in the last month or so. I've always given him his space and he gives me mine...until lately. He eats out of my hand and never came at me...until lately. I'm hoping the spring hormones will mellow and he will go back to his old self.
