Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Thanks, guys! I'm in love!!!

I emailed the seller for more information about his breeding stock and got the following response: "The ones that seem to hatch out white always get black spots as they get older. I have also notice that the ones that are more white when hatched are almost always males. I only had these for 2 years now and got mine from a breeder in Minnesota. I purchased his pair that he was showing. They will begin to lay at six months of age and lay most all winter."
So, if it is a boy with spots of color, I will be doing a major happy dance!

Had one die

it had pipped, but did not zip and it turned in the egg to hatch out. I was getting worried about it since it wasn't doing much and now it's back was turned to the hole and not it's beak so I decided to help him out since it had been several hours with no progress. He was dead, I think he suffocated when he turned in the shell to hatch because he didn't zip and couldn't get that shell open. It's sad, so I made the hole bigger on two other eggs so that that wouldn't happen to them. I'm hopefull that three more will hatch out fine since they have a lot of movement and progress going on.

There are 2 more eggs that pipped late yesterday that haven't done much, but I don't want to rush it if they are just on the late side. The 6 eggs that have yet to pip I'm going to candle once the hatching is all over just to check for anyone alive.

So.....

1 -dead
7- hatched
3 - very close to hatching
2 - pipped
6- waiting for pip or any movement.

Bummer about the one little guy not making it, but awesome news about the 7 that have hatched so far! Go rest of babies go!!

Hey, Quackers did you get anything back from plum run? They emailed me and said they received my order and would be shipping them as soon as possible. I don't know if that means sooner than April or what but I can't wait to get them.

Well, another egg has quit and I'm down to 8. I think it tried pipping in the wrong end, I can see what looks like a beak in the little end but no vessels or movement. I do have an internal pip finally, so am now hands off the incubator. I'm really hoping at least a few hatch.

#8,9,10 are hatched now (I assisted them because they were starting to stick to the membrane) I know I know I'm not supposed to open the incubator, but I had to and now i'm glad I did because they probably would have died too. My humidity had dropped at some point and so they started sticking to the membranes. 1 of the eggs that hasn't been doing anything is now rocking, so I'm hopeing to get a few more ducklings out of this

I hope all goes well with your hatch. Keep us updated. What is up with them pipping in the wrong end? I've never seen that before.

Me either. I wonder if it's because they were up and down instead of on their sides, or maybe because of the temp spike I had somehow. This is the only call that's done it so far, and I'm not for sure because I really just don't want to open the egg. It's still in the incubator anyway, just in case, and I can't open it.
