Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I had the geese eggs upright at about a 45 degree until day 21 then I put them at 70 degree angle. Then for hatching, I laid them down. The reason they were upright was that they still had fluid in the air cell. The one that is alive is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! It is light grey with white through it. I had to open it up more because when I looked inside the shell, it was really getting shrunk wrapped on the body. The only thing that wasn't shrunk wrapped was the little beak I helped out. So I opened it up more. GAWD I HATE DOING THIS!!! But I am afraid if I don't they will all die. My humidity is up to almost 90% to get some mositure in there but it is not helping at all.

Take a q-tip, soak it in warm water, and apply gently to the membrane. Do NOT peel more shell away than membrane... do it in equal amounts. The more exposed the membrane, the quicker it will dry out.

DG, Gorgeous! I think my ancona baby is getting the same markings as yours. Maybe it will be a blue too.

I've found that no matter how high I raise my humidity it doesn't matter. Just me.

I think my first blue egg has just internally pipped. I will definitely have 2, maybe 3, internally pip today.

Question to SM and QJ.... probably dumb and obvious... but you don't have a fan on in your bators during hatching, do you?

SM, do you have any sponges that are new/unused? If so get a shallow pan of water and fill it sponges and pour in warm water to add to your bator. It will up the humidity for those struggling with dry membrane. Use a qtip with warm water to help soften around the beak and fully clear the face. Every hour you can do a bit more to help free the head and then let it rest. An old towel trimmed to fit the bator with shelf liner rubber grip over it will help pad the hatchlings as they rest.

Anytime you have to open the bator have a spray bottle with hot water in in to mist the eggs before closing it back up again. If all else fails steam up a bathroom and move the bator in their. That increases external humidity helping the internal humidity stay steady.

I am in and out today prepping for customers tomorrow and planning our gosling hoop house for the spring. Will check back on you again later. Deep breath
