Ooh, Margaritas!

That is a little far, but I just got quail eggs from Oregon a few monthes back, and my hatch rate was still high. I think its more important you have a thoughtfull shipper, who uses enough protecive wrap, and then many layers of insulating material to protect from rough handling and weather change. If they ship fresh, and back good, you should get a hatch out. I'd go for it if I were not allready going to be up to my eyeballs in little fluffy popcorns with toothpick legs!

I'd be tempted if I wasn't as far away from you as possible. If I get brave enough to get shipped eggs, I'm going to have to find someone within a state or two. Eggs from Florida to Washington might be a recipe for disaster.

I just open the hatcher to find QUAIL every where there so many I can't count them all tell I take them out

now to find a place to put them all

I did not think this out all the way first.............

I did that to myself when I brought home my first ducklings.

I'm actually trying to figure out how to brood the chicks seperate from the ducks, assuming this hatch goes right. I'm scared. Day 8.

I'm also getting really impatient!

I was just catching up on my theads when I heard a commotion outside. Went out and one of our neighbors Britneys had climbed my 6" fence, and seemed oh so very proud to have one of my lovely white Peking ladies in his stupid ugly mouth. The owner paid me (again) for the duck (again....This is the FOURTH TIME in 2 years)

He is old, and kind, and the dog just gets out sometimes, but

!!

Im just so mad right now.

I'm so sorry. You are more understanding than I think I could be.

Its hard to be mad at Bob, hes a sweet fellow. He lost his wife about 1 1/2 years ago, but she waslked feckles, and Bob can't.

My fence is 2 x 4" woven wire, attached to wood poles, and 2x4's top and bottem to keep the fence good and tight. Bruce (DH) says that we should add 2" of woven to the top, and let it hang down over the outside of the fence. He says that would keep freckles from getting in.

Anyone heard of that?

I've never heard of electric poultry net... Guess I"ll check it out.

Good fences do indeed make good neighbors.

Thanks guys.

At an angle towards the neighbor's yard, like they do sometimes with barbed wire, maybe?

Might work, but sometimes dogs are just escape artists.

I got sucked into some UGLY birds JUST because my son wants one (my daughter got her Silkie & I let my son choose his "pet)!

"12 Crele Polish Mixed Breed hatching eggs.
We have two Gorgeous Crele Polish Roosters, 1 Lemon Cuckoo Polish Rooster, 1 Crele Pendedesenca Rooster and 1 Partridge Silkie Rooster in a flock

The hens are not Polish and include:
Black Frizzle Cochin, Blue Silkie, Cuckoo Silkie, Gold Spangled Hamburg, Mille Fleur D’uccle, , Partridge Olive Eggers, Phoenix (silver and gold duckwing), Porcelain D’uccle, Russian Orloff, Salmon Favorelle, Speckled Sussex.
The chicks that hatch from this flock are gorgeous and 50- 75% of them develop a small top hat when their adult feathers start growing in (at 2-4 weeks of age).

Then I got Some Blue Jersey Giants !!! So I hope to have a nice flock in the future, ALSO I got My Blue Marans coming at me, and 150 Jumbo Quail.

Are those the famous Mardi Gras chickens?

Lol, I cant wait for bobby! Lol.
Should I keep a few baby chicks to keep him company? I really dont want to keep any chicks I dont plan on keeping, but I hate for him to be lonely.

Don't keep chicks if you have a buyer and don't want them. Get a feather duster and hang it in the corner of his brooder so he has "mommy" to hide under.

I LOVE my duckies, but chickens don't seem as cute or entertaining to me. However, I do like the pretty eggs that EE or Ameraucana breeds lay and am really very tempted to get eggs from Celtic. So tell me, what is great about hatching chickens?

I like chickens, but I'd rather have more ducks. That's the toss-up. So I go with ducks. I get enough time with chickens at work.
