Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I live in the city And I don't have any a real predators Except for raccoons at night. And I have the ducks in before it gets dark. Next thing is this might just be a temporary Thing because I'm hoping to find a Cayuga Drake in the spring. Right now I need a drake because the girls are trying to do each other and they are really tearing each others necks up trying to hold the other duck down in the water while they are on top of it. In other words they are really really horny. So right now for ducks I have a Buff, a Blue Sweden and a Cayuga. Which of those 2 drakes do you think would go best with my girls?

I guess it depends on whether you want to have smaller egg layers or larger offspring? I think for egg layers, assuming you don't eat your ducks, I'd go with the Khaki Campbell. If you do eat duck, then use the Silver Appleyard. I love the personality on Appleyards and they would give you a lot of size and decent egg laying. The Khaki would give you a little more boring ducks, but they'd lay better. I'm not familiar with Buff genetics, but the Khaki will give you solid colors and the Appleyard - who knows? They would be more interesting to look at. I had some stunning Appleyard crosses. In fact a mixed drake that looked a lot like a Blue Swede gave me this boy out of an Appleyard duck:

His father, Reggie (at 5-6 weeks old) Reggie was the result of a Magpie crossed with a drake that was Welsh Harlequin X Khaki Campbell:

His mother, Lily:

Maybe that will help you decide.

Hey guys! Just got back from my dads and the first thing peeps did was jump out of the brooder and jump in my hands. Lol! Will get pics soon!

I had Lily a long time, she was one of my all time favorite ducks and a major reason that I still just have to have Silver Appleyards. Her name was Lily because she was so naughty and in the flowerbeds all the time.

Oh I think Lily is ohlala! She is gorgeous. I am leaning towards the Silver Appleyard. I like the colors of them so much. I wish I could find a Cayuga drake though more than anything.

I have been busy trying to get things done around the house and in the duck house before tomorrow. I have to be at the hospital at 11 and surgery is at noon. I just want to get it over with and start feeling better. I hate this. But I have 4 weeks of downtime. Hopefully I have babies to play with during that time. When I canded tonight I saw a few little veins starting. I didn't see any hearts though. When I hatched my duck' s eggs I saw the hearts beating at 3 days. I just have to be patient and I will see them soon.
