Also, what do you think is up with bobby? He has these weird DARK veins. Like black dark. It isnt a blood ring is it?

Well, I guess my incubator is just wacked! The meat thermometer is reading the same mesurement as the other one. So all is well. My incubator is just weird...

QJ & all... how come my chicks aren't fluffing up so fast? One was kinda sticky, so I gave it a gentle rub with a warm, wet washcloth. Also had to use a warm, wet q-tip to help one open its eye.

Think I overdid the humidity? It was at 70 steady last night and spiked at some point when the first two hatched.

just a quick question for anyone out there.... at what age do you start treating ducklings? and when do you let them have there first bath? thank-you

Treating ducklings? Do you mean offer treats, or do you mean treat them with meds? I dont give them treats at all, they eat game starter until they aer about a month old, then they goet to nibble native grasses in their day yard. I do not medicate.

I let them play in the old tub before washing it once they are a week old. I stick them in the tub with warm water, then go clean their box while they play, then cute litle wet ducks get a gentle towel squeeze, and popped back into their box o brooder.

I think some folks offer treats like greens, but I think it can be problematic.

Duck Girl - A blood ring show up when veins have disappeared due to breakdown following death. Darkening veins are not a bad sign. If they get lighter and disapper, thats bad. A blood ring tends to go around the whole egg. A single blood line. I think your ok.
