Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

QJ - I'm so sorry that you were so alone. I called my mom (who does hatch geese, or did for like 40 years) and she reports that she has seen this, and did use a spary bottle w/warm water to rinse off the face a little. She has had some make it fine, but they took a bit longer to escape their egg. She has had to assist, but did so with extra slowness. I hope some other goose people are on today for you.

I hope by now, though, your baby has recovered and is attempting to hatch normally.

So glad your Java have emerged, and you got a good hatch. Except the last quail batch, which may have been about the lock down bator, I've had pretty good luck with ebay eggs, and the eggs I sent my sister worked out for her (most of them.) My ebay large pekings have shown 8 of teh 10 eggs I bought (but he sent 2 extra) are all spidering up nice, and I've gotten 4 of 6 turkey eggs coming along (well, at least 3, one is weird in its shell and I'm waiting to just see what happens).

I go on lockdown w/turkeys on Wednesday. Then, since they were soooo expensive, I'll be sweating, and I hope you'll be here to comfort me!

Love to the egg and baby....

QJ: Morning report?!???!?

I am super happy to report that my best friend is taking Hitler/Eva and a buddy home!! He loves that duckling so much, and after its health scare, has decided to take it home. Those duckies are going to be SPOILED!

Thanks!!! I am super excited that my best friend is taking it home too!

So... that makes my 2nd set of available ducklings sold out and I already have 2 orders for ducklings from my next set. Woo hoo!

QJ- How is the gosling?
DG- Have you tried changing the batteries in your candler? My eggs are due 3 days after yours are and if my battery gets low they just look dark too. As long as you can see even some veins I wouldn't worry, sometimes I can't see movement either but know they are still good because the veins still look good.

Hey guys, bad news to report.

Little Sebbie died early this morning. :( We're sad. But also thankful that we have one that made it out all by itself, healthy and strong.

I'm not a vet, but I really think it got fluid in it's lungs. It never peeped like normal. It's breathing was like it was gasping. And it took a breathe every 4 seconds. It only opened it's eye normally one time. The rest of the time it was the white of the eyes. Like they were rolled down.

I've never helped a goose, obviously, but I've never seen this much fluid in a duck and my instinct was telling me it's not normal.
