I'm so sorry about Cheese

You didn't do anything wrong - the little chap was not growing properly, meaning that wasn't right from the start. It's terribly sad, but it's definitely not your fault.

QJ - are the eggs lying on their sides now? With those blue eggs, next time I'd wash half of them before incubation. That'll make them more porous and will aid in water loss. If you do half only you can compare the effect of washing versus not washing.

That's an eggcellent idea. Yes, all the eggs are on their sides.

Here's what I think the main problem is.. They don't zip. They pip and then move to some akward place where they can't reach the shell to continue. Weird.

kinda like a breech baby?? silly ducks.

QJ, what is the diet of the parents? How closely related are the parents? I ask because parental nutrition can affect a hatch and so can inbreeding.

At this point I'd be helping anything that has pipped the shell at the correct end but made no progress for about 36 hours. I know that's disheartening, to have to help...

The parents are on Dumar Layena. I try to feed them fruits and veggies but they look at me like I'm crazy. They don't even like peas. They are weird. As far as imbreeding.. that interesting. I bought them from a feed store, so it's quite possible they are brother/sister. That's gross. I didn't even think about that. Maybe I should bring in an outside duck in the spring.

Gross... still thinking.
