Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Well, it's possible they're closely related or just from a really inbred line. Maybe. A bit of generic diversity might be worth a try though.

I'm not familiar with feeds in the US but if it's not a cheap feed then I'm sure it's fine. Don't worry if they don't eat fruits/veg...a good quality feed should be enough.

Are you confident that your incubator is holding the temp accurately? Temp that's a little low can be associated with a slow hatch. I'm just guessing here

Sorry if I have asked about that before...

It's also worth trying the ultra high humidity at hatch next time too. Some people find they need to run it so the condensation is literally dripping down the walls. Unfortunately it all involves trial and error to get it right...

5am here so I'm gonna try to get a bit more sleep.

Thanks 70. It's a good quality feed store. One of, if not THE biggest here in the midwest. I have 3 thermometers in there so I know it's holding the temps. My humidity is at 75 and dripping from the ceiling but I think I'll try 80 next time.

Happy sleeping 70!

I'm down to 3 eggs under my broody. I went out to collect eggs and one of the eggs under my broody was smashed. There was a dead beautiful tiny perfectly formed all black chick.

Guessing it was a girl too, she was all black. It was the barred rock egg, I noticed the shells on her eggs seemed a little thin, but thought it might just seem to be because I was using more duck eggs.
