Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Iain Utah-I can't wait to see the pics! Love me some Cayuga.

I would have guessed a quail egg of some sort too. I know that Bob White quail eggs are solid white.

I always wanted an Owl LOL Could be!!!!!!!!

I was walking around with hubby today, and almost stepped on this egg. Anyone have any idea what it is? I candled it and it looked good, so I threw it into the incubator.

I hope it isn't a loch ness monster egg. It's the little spotty one. The big speckled one is a turkey egg.

Iain -- when you get home you'll have to let me know how many of Aurora's Ancona eggs you have left. Out of the 7 I had at home, 4 are still going strong. 10 more (at last count a few days ago) at someone else's house.

So I'm guessing they could start pipping around next Thursday...? It's funny, I've always thought that they just hatch at day 28 and never gave it much thought. It just occurred to me that they actually start the hatching process a couple days earlier. Right?

I really hope the 4 at home make it. I'm so excited to see this whole process!

That must be a male thing. My hubby has always wanted an owl. He's threatened (jokingly) to go steal from the pair that nest on our property. I just laugh and tell him to go ahead and try, but to make sure to tell me first so I can go get the video recorder.

I have already raised one they are difficult and costly then you have to teach them to be wild and let them go thats the hard part

Okey dokey, I will post pics when I get home. :D

Spoke to buff dewlap Toulouse seller tonight. I have a really good feeling about my purchase. She collected today's eggs and they will be at post office first thing in morning. I should receive them by Saturday!

Christine, next Saturday is day 28? I like to draw the air cell outline on shell on day 21. Usually, I can see beginning movement on day 21 too. By day 25, the baby will have turned and the air cell has changed dramatically. Then the real fun begins! If you have 4 going strong now, I am very confident you will be hatching at least a couple of babies!! It is going to be great!!

WOO HOO It has been a long day and night. So far I have 5 babies out of the shell and resting. And I have 12 that have zipped and are sitting in their little shells still. I had to help 2 of them because they pipped at the wrong end and was still trying to make the hole bigger and then got stuck so I helped those two. They were both ones that I got from a lady about 15 miles from me. I think they are pekin/mallards but I can't remember. Hubby is sleeping, through all of it, in the bedroom. My chickens have not done a thing yet...
