Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Also my ducks are slowly getting into laying I put two eggs in the bator to check fertility then it's time to collect and send to SM :)

The Silver Appleyards... Thought I had 2 boys and 2 girls. Now I'm not so sure...

Fiona and the babies. She is still VERY tame and will follow me everywhere. I hope that continues!

I suspect the girls are wanting to lay in this bush. This was Rosalee's favorite spot last year.

the appleyards are getting so big!!
and fiona still looks tiny!
im jelous lol.
i wish my girls were still tiny.

i think im just a worry wart about my air cells.
they are bigger today .
and a few are starting to drop.
so i think they are doing just fine. =)
still 1 questionable one but it has veins so who knows.

I love this picture. That's a good idea to use the dog crate for them. I have a big wire crate like that that I rarely use. I'll have to dig it out when I have some babies.

I missed a quote. SM- One of my call ducklings was like that. It acted like it's neck wouldn't work for 2 days. I left it alone in the incubator for a day, then put her in a little margarine cup that just gave her room to sit, stand, not put her head underneath herself. She was ok by day 3, and was perfectly normal and running on day 4.

She died. I think she had problems with her brain. She was twitching and shaking all the time.

Celtic and Julie -- that's for the planting advice. I didn't think of the apple trees. I'm so used to trying to keep animals AWAY from my apple trees!

YES!! That's what I was thinking yesterday!! Awesome! Which one is the drake. Gosh, I have to look at them again, but I remember thinking yesterday that the black one isn't looking like the drake anymore. There is one with a dark bill.

Three girls and a drake for the Silver Appleyards.
Fiona looks wonderful!

The best variety for you would depend on your weather. Around here in the midwest high plains, Brandywine and Mr. Stripey both do very well. They are nondetermine varieties, they will produce until frost. Plant them early in Mid April, or sooner if you will cover them w/ a box at night. That'll get you fruit sooner. If you like old tomatoe flavor - some acidity and richness. I like Pink Brandywine, but mr. stripey is beautiful and richly flavored also.
OK, I'm going to jot those down. Thanks! I'll have more questions as I get more "involved".
