I still have my chickens though! But am thinning them out to

& I almost sold my goosie girl yesterday!
So 2 anconas, 2 Cayugas ! The lady who came out yesterday fell in love with my Cayugas, and wants to buy some ducklings in a month when mine hatch. I bought 3 dozen Cayugas, & 4 dozen Anconas. And another 3-4 dozen Apples.

Yes, yes yes!!!! Just got this picture with the beak out. We have to run out until about 4pm and it is hard leaving this guy! My kids have already named it early bird and peek-a-boo. I just thought about something else... one of my pekin is 3 yr old and all my other females are 1 yr old. (We have lost a lot of females to predators) Does their age affect egg fertility?

Hi Everyone - just wanted to update you guys... our first little pekin egg has broken through the shell. It has a hole about the size of a nickel now from starting about 3 hours ago...


I have another newbie question: What happens when ducks cross breed say a pekin and a khaki campbell or a pekin and a cayuga? Do you get a mixed looking duck or do one of the genes dominate?

Thirdly, I have one egg that I think has two babies. It seems to be getting larger too or maybe it is my imagination. I haven't seen a lot of positive outcome for multiples. Here's a picture of some eggs during this morning's candling. It is the egg on the left. From left to right I think the eggs should be pekin (possible double yolk), pekin, buff, snowy, snowy and west india. We do have more male ducks than females right now...

Iain I will decide on that egg tonight... tried the water again and it didn't move like the younger ones but did manage to slowly turn

the bright orange area is becomming smaller nothing in the aircell and no dipping..... so i'm prepared to toss if nothing shows when i candle tonight

I better be able to post pics of lots of babies within 48 hours or so. I have 5 working hard at externally pipping... and another 4 that have internally pipped. And my goosies on day 24 are all rocking and turning into position.

Psue, you can also externally pip a hole large enough to shine flashlight to see inside of egg.

QJ, I am excited to hatch celtic's SA egg in a few days. I am told they are the fattest and calmest of all breeds, except maybe pekin.
Marty, I think you are doing well with Lucky. Maybe set some super wet mash in bator or mash up hard boiled yolk. Otherwise, stick with sugar water and get some polyvisol for him tomorrow.

I have to agree with that. Even though I've only had them a short time, I've noticed they grow quickly and they are meatier than the others. They are also the quietest. I am pretty much loving them. And the females have no ugly phase. Their feathers are beautiful coming in. IMO.

Ebay bidding announcement... I am bidding on the silver appleyard eggs sold by dprather. There is another bidder p****p. Hope I'm not bidding against any of you, because I need duck eggs to set with my new toulouse eggs, and hubby wants SA instead of cayuga!!!

Hatching announcement: 5 of the ancona eggs have beaks against shell, getting ready to externally pip. 3 more look to be internally pipping still. 3 are unsure so they are in goose bator so I can keep an eye on them. Lockdown has officially begun and I am raising humidity to 70+% now. So far, everything looks great!

Goslings insisted on coming inside once it got dark, even with heat lamp on outdoor pen. But as soon sun rises, they go back outside... as they are beating the crap out of each other when they get bored.

Yay on RAther's eggs! Tell him QJF recommended him! He may or may not remember me. LOL.
