Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

In the pastels, I have a pair and then a trio....out of the 3 girls, only clear eggs....very frustrating! I think that one of the girls in the trio is timid, and the boy doesn't care for her. Would move her in with the other boy, but he wasn't interested before I split them up, either. And these guys have been eating far better than I have!

Oh...and the hen in the pair keeps giving me soft shelled eggs, and usually lays them in the water. The male is very hot for her, and she's very receptive...go figure. The pastels are frustrating me to the point I'm wondering if I should just sell the group as pets. But, having only been laying for a couple of weeks, I'm trying to hang in there and give them time.

Dutch, they lay when the temps hold true, but we recently went to low 70's and now mid to upper 80's pushing 90 which I am sure will put them off. I did t have these issues last year, but we didn't swing hot and cold as much. I would expect them to enjoy moving up to you and swing back into full laying once settled in.
The pair from Maine is probably in temp shock since Maine just had snow again. It does sound like a molt, but could just be a minor shedding with climate change. We moved a pair of Sebastopols from Michigan to here this year. I kept them in the shade all day, misted them 3 times a day and they had their pool. It helped them acclimate easier since we were so much warmer.

That's what our temps are doing. Last week we dipped into the 50's with the rain. This week 80's, Sunday will be 90, then back into the 70's...oy! The pair from Maine are going to go bald! Your blue-fawns should settle in quickly...our temps are doing about the same, minus last week's spell.

Morning guys.

My last 2 wonderful babies (wrong way ancona and SA) are doing great with the others. Speaking of naming babies... I need to find names for these special guys. I tell ya the SA is different than the rest in that it acts more like a baby gosling towards me than a baby duck. Is it that the SA is the youngest? Or that I hatched it out completely with a fair amount of skill? Or is it the breed? Holding that one makes my heart melt.

Today is day 28 for my goosies. My africans are shadowing in the aircell and my toulouse are pulsing the membranes. I expect the africans to start internally pipping later today, but at the rate the toulouse are going, it will be sometime tomorrow for them. I am guessing the africans are on schedule for a day 30 hatch, and the toulouse are looking like a day 31-32 hatch.

Wrong way:

Your guys are too precious!!! I'm sure you will think of some names to go with their personalities. My kids definitely liked Utah for one of the ducks and are still pondering Janet... sorry. I will send a picture later... they are doing great. The other two eggs did not survive the humidity screw up. Thanks again for helping me save these two! Oh, we think one of the babies is from our buff that was drown by the turtles so it is extra special.

Good luck with your geese... I'll be soaking it all up in case I decide to try myself maybe next spring.

Sbost.... my place is nestled in between two mountain ranges, Wasatch and Uintah (pronounced you-in-ta). Either names are quite popular locally for pets! Perhaps your kids may like these names better than Janet. I know I do!

Morning everyone!

i am not liking my babies growing up, i want my wittle monsters back.

prolly another week and the ducks can go to their new home. (<- this one im happy about, flightly little thiings)

We got rain and light storms last night.... but I can see the babies from the porch so I stood out long enough to count all 11 fuzzy butts,,, wont be able to call them that much longer they'er working hard to feather in.

Hello. It has been a very very busy week for me. I went out and worked in the property where my horse and goat is. Did a lot of cleaning up from the winter out there. I also have been cleaning up around my house and the ducks house. Yesterday was hard on me.
I had to cull a beautiful runner baby because it had a heart prblem. I hate having to do that. Also yesterday, when I finally got to come in the house after working all day outside,. I went out to look at the baby chickens and ducks on my front porch, and I found Tut in a corner all curled up. Tut was my Blue Breda Polish chicken that was so cute and comical and who I planned on finally keeping something I hatched. Well somehow his neck got broke. He was still alive but you could tell it was broken. Sad day. I am now bidding on some more Breda eggs and I plan on winning them no matter what.
I think I have my phone fixed so you are going to be getting a lot of pics off and on today...... I have a lot to share. My BEIs hatched, my EEs hatched, some other ducks I hatched for a Guy I know hatched but Sebbie is still thinking about making its grand appearance.

Oh no! I remember Tut. He was precious! That sucks! Win those eggs Sm.

sorry to hear about your baby. I've learned that if I pick a favorite, and especially if I name it, 9 times out of 10 that's the one I'm gonna lose. So I quit naming anything until I know it's got it's feet under it. Bad thing is, that is very hard for me! They always manage to tell me their names!!

Looking forward to pictures!!

Same here. Not naming anything til it's way older. Also if I decide to sell something there is no name attachment. Lol.

I suspect that my Beaker has maybe started laying. Not sure. Someone has made a nest that I just noticed. It's amazing how I can miss 4 eggs in such a small space..but those mallards sure cover things up good.

Utah: Love the SA. It's just like mine was! I hope it's not.. confused.. like mine is.

DG: Where are you girl! I want to know how that baby is doing!

Hey Sue, glad to hear your goosies are making progress!! I just finished moving my goosies over to hatching bator (FYI, am going with the cheese cloth in hatcher, since that is what I have on hand) and set my new saxony and silver apple eggs in the cooking bator. Every last new duck egg has a detached air cell (eggs were shipped laying sideways) so they are riding upright in egg cartons in bator. A bunch of the eggs have a nice fertile look about them, so I feel good that many will develop, but not looking forward to hatch time, as I expect a few will need my help to hatch.

I noticed my big toulouse has gone into high gear and is quickly catching up to my africans with shadowing in aircell. It won't be long before I go into lockdown!! Marty, I will have hubby help me take pics this afternoon when there is better shadowing, so you can see what to look for.

QJ, I could not help but think of you and your stressing over whether the baby was a SA when my little one hatched out. I am HOPING it is a boy, then I can keep a couple of girls from prather's eggs and have an awesome trio, but the pipes on the thing makes me suspect it will be a girl. Either way, I'm in love with the little thing!!

I too wonder what is up with DG's baby!! Hope she shows up to give us a report soon!!
