Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Celtic, has water, food ect. I dont know whats wrong! Its gotten really bad in the past hour!

Qj, uploading pic now of ducky!

I figured out revenge for my ankle biting roo. I downloaded a rooster crowing ringtone and tormented him for a bit.

Hope no one talks on their phone for awhile near him.
My goslings were going through a skittish stage but have calmed back down. My gander actually crawled in my lap for some cuddling today. I can already see veining on 8 of my call duck eggs. Momma broody is doing a great job taking care of the chicks, along with the 2 "doting aunt" silkies that keep trying to take over. Babies know who their momma is though and ignore them. The little squirrel is doing good today. Her appetite has finally kicked in and she's eating and pooping great, lol. Woody should be hatching between wednesday and saturday I believe, not sure when to put him on lockdown and since they zip longways not sure where to look for a pip at. I think I'll just stop turning him wednesday. Need to stockpile some worms soon.

LOL @ the roo! Go little Woody go!!!

Stanleys eyes are getting alot worse. They are both glazed over!! Im so worried

Does he have a way to get his head all the way in water? Keep calm and listen to everyone's advice.

I'd be tempted to run him a warm bath in the sink and let him swim a few minutes. Maybe that'll help his eyelids.

The african with the wonky air cell that I was worried about didn't make it. I noticed it had stopped trying to external pip, so I opened it up. It had internally pipped, had mild shinkwrap (but nothing like the other night with the ducklings) and fluid on the inside. It was also the egg that had lost the least amount of weight.... at approx. 12.5%.

The first african that pipped yesterday has cracked about an inch of the shell, but is going upward towards top, not counterclockwise. It also seems to be losing a little steam instead of picking up a gear for zipping. The big toulouse has been made steady progress at the shell, peeping away, and seems fine.

The last toulouse has been trying to external pip for a few hours now. I think I may pip a hole and make sure no shrink wrapping going on.

By the way... the membrane is perfect on the guy that pipped out backwards. It looks like he is eating the inner membrane and trying to turn. I have not touched him since I helped open hole 10 hours ago.

for your geese!

GQ sorry about Rex, what a boy.
Bakin thank you, many hours spent enjoying all the critters here. Love sharing them with others too.
We had a blue American goose hatch last night, just moved it and three more buffs outside to the brooder house.
So current count
9 new Sebbie
2 grey SB Pom
5 buff American
1 blue American
2 more Sebbie fully externally pipped and just sitting there peeping at me.
7 call ducks and 3 Sebbies to ship at the first of the week and more eggs into lockdown.

Busy time! Your geese sound so beautiful!

DG ducks have an inner eye lid. Does he have water to dip his bill in? Is he eatting and drinking? Is he active? What else is going on?
Iain, just responded to your PM. You are on the right track, slow and steady and tomorrow should be push day for the strongest for sure.

Celtic's giving good advice. Need to know the other variables.

AHHHHH ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Email them back and say, "We're you interested in the big ones? Or the mini ones."

LMBO.

Mine is getting more and more of a white neck ring everyday. I'm baffled! But it does make a resounding Quack. Actually.. she's pretty good at quacking.

I'm a friend? Yay!!! What's that? Lol.

Surely it will be there soon. Good Lawd.

I'm so happy to be a friend!! Most people just think I'm weird for loving poultry.

Oh no. That's awful. So so so so so sorry. RIP Rex.

Take these steps in the order listed..

1. CALM DOWN.
2. Take a pic.
3. Post the pic.
4. Take a pic of my pup.
5. Post that pic too.
6. Await feedback on both subjects.
7. Repeat #1.

LOL @ Pecker Ducks!

DG... it's a consensus. We want pics.

Just may have saved the 3rd toulouse!! I opened him up and he was so happy to get air. He too had internally pipped and started to shrink wrap. There was blood where he pipped, but no fluid inside. I opened as little as possible to make sure I could see nares and his beak opened, but not any more than that.

I'm going to move my cooking bator out of bathroom then continue. I am sure part of my problem is the high spikes in temp and humidity in bathroom when I am trying to save babies that are hatching.

But, what I don't understand... is that I locked down with plenty of time before external pip. Humidity has ranged between 78-82 the ENTIRE time!! Why are they shrinkwrapping????

Off to open up the other african and toulouse!

I had shrinkwrap with a batch at 80% humidity. Time to recalibrate the hygrometers maybe?

Glad I opened everyone up. All were getting shrinkwrapped fast and losing air. It looks like the african had broken the shell, but had not broken through the outer membrane.

They need more membrane removed, probably sooner rather than later, but at least all 4 are breathing with beaks and nares out.

Thank goodness. Gonna be a looooong night huh?

Good luck with the assisted hatch. I'm hoping the weird hatch syndrome goes away before the 11th. I need a smooth sailing hatch since it's coming in the middle of the work week! Heck, the hatch for the 17th is smack in the middle of a CSA week. I might be in biiiiiig trouble.

Utah: I don't know why that happens but I don't like it!

GQ: Thanks for that link!!

I'm uploading pics of what we did today on my coop.

Gonna do it? Huh? Huh?

I swear, my labor with my son was three times as fast as my last duck hatch!

I don't think the mini runners are laying yet. I'm waiting until next month sometime to segregate and evaluate laying. I've been seeing a new egg every day for the past couple weeks, so they're ramping up. My problem is that I don't have a mini-drake.

15 eggs this morning and still not getting any customers. Who wants 7 dozen eating eggs?
