NO it's not cruel. You did what any of us as poultry parents would do. You put him out of his pain and now he can rest in ducky heaven pain free. I'm sorry you had do this but you did the right thing

Thank you Kevin, you all make me feel so much better :hugs

He was half dead... Heart beating, but barley breathing, I couldn't take it, so I kinda "smuthered" him ..........

... Was that to cruel? I couldn't take my baby suffering like that

You did what you felt was right. My little Pocket has a new buddy in the hereafter.

You would have felt bad no matter what you decided to do. It's a hard part of caring for animals.

I feel good about that last session. Almost got the membrane away from where I took off shell and their heads are almost free. I checked on my backwards baby and he seems fine so I am just focusing on the other 3 now, especially the African, because he should have been zipping on his own by now.

DG, not cruel, but the opposite. You eased his suffering by helping him pass faster. I am very sorry that it hurts so much. :(

I'm so sorry you had a bad hatch! But keep your spirits up, the eggs I got from you are cooking along and will let you know how many ducklings I end up with!

I am, I put in another set to try again. It sucks anytime this happens, but It's a fact of life and I've got the new set bakin in the good duck bator.

I figured out revenge for my ankle biting roo. I downloaded a rooster crowing ringtone and tormented him for a bit.

Hope no one talks on their phone for awhile near him.
My goslings were going through a skittish stage but have calmed back down. My gander actually crawled in my lap for some cuddling today. I can already see veining on 8 of my call duck eggs. Momma broody is doing a great job taking care of the chicks, along with the 2 "doting aunt" silkies that keep trying to take over. Babies know who their momma is though and ignore them. The little squirrel is doing good today. Her appetite has finally kicked in and she's eating and pooping great, lol. Woody should be hatching between wednesday and saturday I believe, not sure when to put him on lockdown and since they zip longways not sure where to look for a pip at. I think I'll just stop turning him wednesday. Need to stockpile some worms soon.

Oh, I can't wait to hear how this Woodcock comes along. I'm praying you hatch the little fella just so we all can see....

DG, I am really sorry this is happening to you.
Over at my end, I am trying to not think about the one African I lost and focus on saving the four that are still going. I almost have their heads free. I hate trying to work in this spot the most because they are smashed up against shell and I am so worried about making them bleed. So far so good though and they are all so sweet trying to help me when I work on them. They want their heads freed really bad.

Sorry Utah. It always sucks to lose one. Keep going girl. Save those babies

The hospital ward is open again

Your doing good. Hope this turns out good.

Hope your not tired of our new babies yet, but between their teeny tiny size, and they way out of proportion giant feet, I love this crazy little things.

Here they are trying to hide between DHs big fingers. I have tiny little hands, and wear rings sized 5, but he has man hands, for a good comparison. They are eating, drinking and pooping, so I'm a happy quail mama today. The girls are ecstatic, and love them immensely.
