I don't mind incubating/hatching, but the chickens make so much better mommies than me. And it's so much easier letting them do all the work.

i love to incubate. but my hatch rate on the first hatch was horrible.
i think the calls are just too fragile for it, so unless i have a really good hatch this round, i will leave it to the hens and only use the incubator if someone needs help or i have a hen ditch the eggs. (or i have too many eggs and no hens or buyers lol) <--- insert devil smiley

All my Eggs that are not due to hatch an tell tomorrow for the Easter Hatch ARE hatching!!!! I think I have like 30 so far....... 1 Mallard Duckling 5 Buff Orpingtons, 4 Lavender Orpingtons, 4 or 5 Barred Rock, 4 or 5 Rhode Island Red, 6 Silkies and 4 Japanese Bantams.....WHY are they hatching on me the day before!

Now my Easter hatch is going to be a bit smaller....

don't they still count if you set them for the easter hatch? just wondering cause i am in the same boat

well today i pulled duds in the bator.
had to pull 8 (4 clear, and 4 blood rings)
one egg still looks questionable.
but im left with 13 eggs =/
they had set on the dresser longer than i wanted to collecting how many i wanted and sending julie hers.
but overall not that bad i guess. its the older eggs that are quitters.

waiting on it to warm up a little before i go check for ext pips under the hens.
oh and lastnight we checked the little tiny red hen (due the 11th)
and man was she vocal.
she screamed bloody murder at us you woulda thought we cut off her legs or sumthin.
she had 5 eggs i bloodring the rest doin good.
so looks like for wednesday i have 15-16 eggs right on track =) so i expect maybe 10 babies wednesday.
and hopefully 9-10 this weekend.

my broody is like that to, i finnaly decided to let he keep the eggs, cause she has been sitting the whole week even when i empty the nest

well i have some buyers lined up lol =)

i have 4-5 ext pips under 1 hen. and 1 under the other i will have babies by tonightt =)
any that arent ext pipped by tomarrow morning are coming inside

Oh forgot to mention.. the city sewer line is clogged and backing up into our basement. So gross.. so gross. Waiting for the city to get here. Hopefully they will reimburse me for the plumber I just paid to find the problem.. (which turns out really wasn't my problem.. it was the city's.)

I bought a dozen fertile Silver Pheasant eggs today!

4 poults out. 1 zipped and working his way out right now, another most the way zipped, no progress egg has made a big hole so is making some progress. So I should have 7 poults by tonight.

As far as the electric tape, I'd cut as much off as possible then use oil to break up the adhesive and remove the rest. Poor baby, lol.

thanks guys it is from the inside of my incubator, i put in a fan and taped the wired up so no one would get tangled. i guess all the steam lossened it right up

as far as cutting it is almost over his eye and i am so afraid of hurting him/her, but i will give it a try

if i dont keep my nails painted they chip really bad and break easily.
so i just did a quick design on them bcuz i couldnt decide on a color and thought just clear was boring.

6 turkey's out. Just pokey egg left to hatch now.

Once they get zipping these guys pop out almost as fast as quail.

Good idea, he will be pokey. And I'm hoping he is the tom I've been wanting because he will be one of my keepers. Anything this slow and lazy from the beginning can't be a girl...lol.
