Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Ok back from the farm. I'll post some pics but it's NOT DONE. It doesn't look pretty yet.. so use your imagination.

We basically just almost finished the framing for the wire. I need to get 4 more 2x4's and we'll be good. This took ALL day with the digging of the posts and all that jazz.

Ok, now to the right of this is another 8 feet I can utilize that I will eventually be making breeding pens that go into the run.. (somehow..).. LOL!!

And I still have to paint and plant flowers and stuff.. so it looks ugly right now.

Oh right now.. it measures, 11.5ft x 16.5 ft. How many chickens you think can fit comfortably? I have a number in my head and want to see if I'm off.

Marty, question. How much do you feed all your ducks everyday? I'm trying to get a idea of how many ducks i can have. I REALLY want 6 - 8 runners, but i also want to have 8 WH. How much would you feed 16 light weight ducks??

QJ! You wouldn't be interested in my blue ancona drake, and black magpie hen, would you?? My ancona drake is breeding any hen he can get ahold of. I heard your drake wasn't interested in the hens...? Maybe I'm wrong...

You'll need one bag every 3 weeks for 8 ducks. I keep mine in groups of 6 (seperated by laying counts - like #'s w/ like #s) and it takes a month between bags of duck layer feed. Now, mine also are semi self fed - they all get turns in the yard every day, and they eat loads of slugs and garden bugs in season. Over the winter, they use a bit more. It should cost you about $2.5-3/per duck/per month for the usual duck layer food.

Hi Jaz, no more eggs, that for sure. I kill turkeys, apparently. Didn't know they were complicated. geez!

Poults. I wanted either: chocolates, beltsvilles, or midget whites. Prefer Chocolates, but....... Why, you hatching?

OK, thanks Marty! Don't get to upset, but I havn't fed my WH in 2 weeks! They free range all day. I havn't fed them in 2 weeks, and I STILL get 1 eggs from each hen a day. Even when I feed them, they stick their noises up, and walk away!! Silly ducks! lol. I havn't fed the rouens either for a while! They free range in the goat pasture that has a running creek with small fish in it, those 3 are fed very well!!

Of course I'm going to feed them in the colder months, but for spring 'n' summer... I think I'm set. What do you think? The runners will be in the goat pasture, and chicken pen. I'm getting some buff and khaki runners from sand hill next year. & I'm getting some runner eggs from quackrrs!!
