A Anatolian would be perfect! As for your question I think it's pack Mentality. If they truly view you as a Pack Member then it's their job as a part of the pack to protect the others. I've found female dogs to be more protective of children almost as if it's a mothering instinct. I'm a homebody type too and don't really got to any dog parks to socialize with other dogs. Here I have the family, dogs, birds, BYC, and guns. That's plenty for me.

Ok, now that's exactly why hubby and I decided on an Anatolian. We love big protective dogs. Our lab Shiloh would hurt someone. I have no doubt. She is Very protective. It's worse when the kids are outside. It's like she's on "patrol". The other little lab/german shepard mix is only barely a year old but she is starting to get to be the same way. Why is that? To the Dog people.. is it the dog or is it us? We don't teach them to be protective.. they just are. Is it because we are such a tight knit family? Or "pack" I guess. Or is it because we don't go to dog parks and "socialize" our dogs , because we never go anywhere really. We're home body types. I don't know..

Ok, I'm rambling again.. I'll stop.. carry on.

Freakin' awesome. I'd give cookie a cookie. Good dog.

She'll defiantly be getting some treats and some Extra dog food in the morning! I was so upset with her harming the birds a few weeks ago but at this point I've forgiven her. Her instincts may have harmed the birds but they also just saved me from being shot.

I just bought the last buff dewlaps from Iains seller on ebay.

She told me, and I was there in 4 seconds (since I've always got it minimized), and had them snapped up in like 10 seconds more. It took longer to e-mail her and ask her to double my order and combine shipping!

I've noticed that with the females too. We always had boys as kids.. but when I switched to females I noticed they are... I don't know the word for it. Motherly is probably a good one.

(And that's pretty much the same as me. Except the only guns I have are my husbands. Bwah ha ha ha.

What do you think he was going to try to steal from you. That's driving me nuts. "Give me your ______."

Keys? Money? Wallet? Shoes? Dog?

I really don't see how you had any other choice but to get them AND then have that order doubled. I would have done the same thing.

I assumed money. When he was on the phone he was talking about "Mary Jane" and you could tell he was intoxicated. And he could have had my keys, Money, Wallet, or my two dollar walmart flip flops no problem. But My dog? Yea he'd have to shoot me first

I see I missed you, but HI anyway!

Wow CG. Looks like this hatch sure made up for the last one! I had a Saxony that would do that flipping thing.. he was fine in 2 days. I hope that's how it ends up for you!

I want chocolates,, the friendliest breed of them all. And dark, I like mine to blend in to the natural surrondings. (It helps hide how many birds I have)

I've had a rough day. All of my little turkey died in their shell. They were moving and shaking yesterday, and then today, nothing. I checked one, super shrink wrapped, and I opened it, but it was dead. All of them were dead. I was so sad to toss out 5 midget whites and 3 chocolates. Beautiful and Perfect, and dead. Now I'm in the middle of a full service goose hatch.

I'm very dejected right now. Oh, I had one pheasent pip, and when I had to help him, I realized he was shrink wrapped. I checked the other 3 eggs, and two of them had tiny perfect dead pheasents.

Here's some more

for you!

That is just so awful. Do you think your hygrometer is off? I just don't know. There is some weirdness going around. And if you notice.. weirdness happens to us all at the same time.

Yes. Weirdness. I keep hoping I'm exempt, but I doubt that's the case. The humidity in my loft is out of control tonight. I'm worried about managing the humidity in the bators now!

I was taking all the dogs out for one last time. I was taking out the last dog out (Cookie) for the last bathroom break for the night. I hear loud talking a few yards away. At this point I could tell he was intoxicated or high. Then he walks up onto the grass. "Nice dogs you have". At this point I'm nervous, no one else is out there with me except for cookie. "I say Thank you" and slowly start moving backwards. At this point he comes even closer and says would you mind putting your dog up I'd like to talk to you my mother died a few weeks ago. At this point I'm screaming inside thinking I can't believe no one is out here for me and I'm gonna die just because my dog had to take a leak. So I reply "Can she go potty first?" Trying not suspicious but once inside I was just going to grab the pistol. I slowly walk toward the house but can see he's following me. So I say "Oh sweetie are you not done yet?" And take her back to the yard. At this point she won't go and is barking very loud and you can tell she's ******. So she's trying to lunge at him now. You can tell he knows that I know what's going on. He says Just give me the ... and starts to reach into his pocket when I thought "50/50 chance he has a gun so might as well take my chance." Before he finished I ran at him like a Mad Woman with Cookie barking and growling. He stands there for a second then takes off. As soon as I saw he was running. Cookie and I ran toward the house and locked the doors and I grabbed the pistol.

So dang scary. We just had some weirdness here too. My son and I were up in the loft checking ducklings and watering the veggie starts and our dog starts barking like mad. He was getting ready to go back down to the house, but the dog spooked him so he came back inside. A few minutes later, hubby comes bursting into the loft asking what all the hollering was about. Turns out there were a bunch of teenages up on the corner, loud and probably up to no good. Still a whole lot less eventful than what happened to you.

Give some hugs and snuggles to Cookie for me!

I made a call but as usual they said since no one was injured they'll look into it. To be fair I live in the "Ghetto" so it's seen as normal behavior and unless someone is dead I won't be seeing a visit from them anytime soon. Our lovely police system down here is why I have my dogs and guns.

Cookie is still upset so my hero will be sleeping on my bed tonight. I actually have one of the meanest ganders I've ever met! I have the bruises to prove it. If my front yard was fenced he'd be patrolling from now on!

I've lived in places like that. Even if you called the cops every day regularly, they'd never come unless there was a body on your front lawn. Glad we moved.

You won't regret it. I love my Toulouse babies more than my Africans,,, and even more than my ducks... And that is saying something.

Can't wait for my buff dewlaps to hatch. Only 8 more days!

Glad your okay too! Seems likes there is so much madness everywhere right now.And yes you NAILED it. A woman was killed a house away by her husband and it took over a day for cops to even show up.
