Vader might catch up with Mojo over time. I had one like that - smaller for weeks but now at 9 weeks as big as the others. They are both really cute anyhow!

Congrats on the chicks, DG! I don't know anything about chicken genetics but that lavender-y one is a beautiful colour. I know there's been some discussion in another thread about the rights abd wrongs of breeding lavenders but I think you should go for it. It's up to buyers to educate themselves about the Standards and the breed. If you let them know they're a work in progress that's all you need to do. You probably don't even need to do that. Just send pics of them and people can make up their own minds.

ive herd theres some good videos out there,
but im the type that learns more when i have someone with me teaching me.
that way i can hear if im doing it wrong?
if that makes sencee.
and after hearing you can hurt them im very leary .

There is some good videos. I watched a couple and then was also taught by someone. You can usually tell if you are hurting them and put them down right away. It does make sense that you would want someone around to teach you. After you do it a few times and know what to look for it becomes pretty easy.

i think i might try it.ill wait ti;ll they are a week or more old tho. young calls are soo tiny

Evelle- your babies are adorable.
On the vent sexing thing, I vent sexed my ducklings as girls and was right. I'm not sure if I did it right though, or just got lucky. The metzer farms video I think is what I watched to learn how.
I got another quail egg today! Just need a few more and I'll have my incubator up and running again soon.
They are so cute, can't wait until I have enough to use the eggs to make lil bitty deviled eggs. Here's a pic, with a duck egg and a silkie egg.

Cocoa, I wont be breeding lavenders much for that reason, but I will be keeping them as pets. I want to be breeding the blues blacks and splashes the most

Well, I think you should breed the Lavs if you want to

They are you're and it's up to you if you want to produce more. With a rare colour it's better to have more people with them as insurance, even it the quality is variable.
