Just remember the older they are the easier it is and you are better at telling. I would wait untill they hit 3 weeks or so.

Not yet. They still peep at 3 weeks old. At one week when i started they all looked female to me till i got the hang of it! lol. Just keep trying and practice to get the hang of it.

What do you mean by no offence ML, I hope I wasn't one of the ones that wasn't very nice?

She is probably referring to me as well as a few other goose folk. We were in no way trying to make you feel uncomfortable by "lecturing" you. Just trying to share personal experience and the risks involved. If any of us have come off as condescending I do apologize.

everyone rushes for a worm and usually a hen gets there first, funny thing is the bibbed hen took off with it with everyone behind her and she ended up dropping it. and the dark snowy hen got it. she looked like she wanted to kick herself for dropping it.

p.s. the chicken behind the fence was raised with the ducks and thinks she is a duck , but she started picking on them so she is now suppose to be learning to be a chicken, problem is that is how she spends her days, watching the ducks

well i wont have babies till my drakes decide my hens are attractive (they pretty much ignore the hens quarting) and until my loud mouth hens decide to bless me with eggies

Look at your pretty Pastel girl, CG. She's so lovely.

Sorry about your chick, Julie

With vent sexing, I actually found it easier at 2 days old than at 3 weeks (this is not on bantam ducks though). At three weeks they can hold their butts in tight and it's hard to really invert the vent. You really have to turn it totally inside out and do it under a bright light. As long as you pull the skin to the side rather than pushing down I think it is fairly safe. They don't like being turned upside down though!
