My lil black chick is gone.

Momma took her babies out of the nest today and I guess one of the other chickens ate it. I'm so mad at them and me right now . Last time I put the broodies in a seperate pen, but since it's so cold I figured they'd be warmer if I left them in the coop. No more letting broodies raise chicks for me unless it's nice and they go in the broody pen. I moved her and the 2 chicks left to a cage inside the run until the little ones are a little bigger and faster. I hope she does better in there. She did fine last time, with 10 chicks, I thought she'd be able to protect 3.

Yes. Because i dont think i will have an incubator by then and i doubt my runners will go broody.

DG your chicks are adorable!! Sorry i haven't been on much, my dad had surgery yesterday and we have been taking care of him. and so sorry Julie about your chick.

so i just watched metzer's vent sexing video and it looks pretty straightforeward.
so i will prolly try it when i get little ones.
maybe if i get decent at it when i go get baby geese i wont just have to take a gamble i can sex them and make sure they are female

ill try it on week old babies first. mark which i think r male, and check again
