first ever Quail hatched while I was out doing chores !!!
Yay!
Thanks!
Give it some benadryl. It'll calm down enough to get it gone before it's true personality rears it's head, and you can change your phone number right after they pick it up so they can't find you to bring it back.

And seriously, I thought texas would be the capital of tranq darts? They are just holding out on you, there's got to be some and you'll need them for your zoo.

So excited!!!! Went to check on Call eggs under broody...should be hatching today. One egg was externally pipped, but all should have been because they were all internally pipped yesterday morning. I grabbed the eggs and brought them in, candled and sure enough all were internally pipped and wanting out. I opened them one at a time and made sure nares were clear. They were all very vocal as I opened them up. SW was starting so I"m glad I grabbed them. Of the 6, 5 are alive and well so far. 3 of them are butterscotch!!!!!

I've wanted butter babies sooooo bad!!! I have one butter egg in the bator trying to internally pip and on day 24.
3 of 7 silkie eggs in hatcher are externally pipped...woohoo!
I"M SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!!!
So happy for you and yay for your hatch!!!!
Quail are hatching when should we give them water and food and what in dont have any thimbles or anything that small and should we give them vitimans
I use a normal chick waterer and feeder and just add rocks to the waterer so they don't drown. I never give vits or sav a chick. I haven't had one die yet.
remember someone said quail hatch like popcorn whoever it was needs to buy new popcorn or is my pan not hot enough yet

Must not be big enough! LOL, mine hatch a few or more at the same time or one right after the other.

Well it turns out my vacation plans to IA have been rearranged....
th.gif

We will still go on vacation but instead of one long road trip we will take 3ish ~ 1-2 night trips around in the camper van & hitting up zoos, amusement parks, aquariums, san jaun islands, & maybe take the train to canada! With my Grandpa passing everything is up in the air, my grandma is moving & selling alot, and she isn't settled..... & she is going to fly back here with my cousins in August, so we can visit & see her then.

So at least I don't have to worry about Dogs, Puppies, Chickens, Ducks, ferrets, cats and everything else for 10 + days while I am away. I can feed & water for 2-3 days & everyone will be fine with a nieghbor checkin in on them. My stress level have went down dramatically

Sounds like a good plan. That's why I'm cutting mine back from a week to 3 days. Being gone for a whole week was just stressing me out too much, which kind of defeats the point of even going on a vacation.
That really sucks....hope they get to you alright.

See...guineas attack like roosters do when they are broody. I don't know about a big ole turkey attacking me, lol. Maybe midgets?

I have pens, then the rest is all open so if they won't stay in pens, I'll probably lose them. It's so open that the cattle and my horse can rub on the pens, lol. I have moving lawn ornaments, both feathered and hairy

That sounds like lots of fun!
The white bird by the leghorn is my MW hen. She is my terrifying broody I am talking about. She's not very big, but she puffs up and hisses like a snake and tries to bite if you go near her on her nest. I don't know what I'm going to do when my geese go broody either though, they are a lot bigger than her.
Yay!

Mine too, although I have crappy hatch rates with quail. Either I can't incubate them or my quail just don't lay very good eggs.

I am glad you do not have to leave home for a long vacation, Jaz, even if the reason behind it is sad. I've done way more than my share of traveling over the years and now my favorite vacations are long weekend road trips that are not too far from home.

I can't stay for long because I have a Banquet to go to. But Demon guinea is gone

. Only took about 2 minutes to catch him.

He ended up going to a home with a flock of guineas and a few acres of land to roam around. I'm sure he'll be much happier now. Now to fill the empty pen space....

Do you candle them? I know that a lot of people have issues candling but I can always see into mine to some extent by day 6. Do they have wonky aircells? I honestly don't know what I would be doing differently. I only candle twice. Day 6 or 7 and lock down. 99.5 degrees throughout and humidity from 40 to 60. Do you have a good fertility rate? I had 1 roo to 6 hens before and was had a 85-90% fertility rate and near 100% hatch rate. Of course i have lost a couple but they have been italians. I have to take the lethal gene in to consideration with them. I have NEVER had to pip for them either. Have you?

Just sold 2 Ancona ducklings for $25 bucks today. Woot Woot!
