I hope that's what they look like.
This is lilac poults on feathersite and porters.

These are mine, which I think look pretty much the same.

My ganders and their african flock have discovered the babies in the garage and were so very excited. My babies, on the other hand, were scared out of their mind. I had to close the garage door to get them to calm down. And now my african flock are sleeping in my driveway. Ruh roh.

oops?!
Well it turns out my vacation plans to IA have been rearranged....
th.gif

We will still go on vacation but instead of one long road trip we will take 3ish ~ 1-2 night trips around in the camper van & hitting up zoos, amusement parks, aquariums, san jaun islands, & maybe take the train to canada! With my Grandpa passing everything is up in the air, my grandma is moving & selling alot, and she isn't settled..... & she is going to fly back here with my cousins in August, so we can visit & see her then.

So at least I don't have to worry about Dogs, Puppies, Chickens, Ducks, ferrets, cats and everything else for 10 + days while I am away. I can feed & water for 2-3 days & everyone will be fine with a nieghbor checkin in on them. My stress level have went down dramatically

we can all use lower stress levels

That really sucks....hope they get to you alright.

See...guineas attack like roosters do when they are broody. I don't know about a big ole turkey attacking me, lol. Maybe midgets?

I have pens, then the rest is all open so if they won't stay in pens, I'll probably lose them. It's so open that the cattle and my horse can rub on the pens, lol. I have moving lawn ornaments, both feathered and hairy

That sounds like lots of fun!
wish I had enough land to have both types of moving lawn ornaments

Yay!

So happy for you and yay for your hatch!!!!
I use a normal chick waterer and feeder and just add rocks to the waterer so they don't drown. I never give vits or sav a chick. I haven't had one die yet.
Must not be big enough! LOL, mine hatch a few or more at the same time or one right after the other.
they are hatching in small bunches..... how long before you figure everything that is gonna hatch has? 24 hours or longer?
Do you candle them? I know that a lot of people have issues candling but I can always see into mine to some extent by day 6. Do they have wonky aircells? I honestly don't know what I would be doing differently. I only candle twice. Day 6 or 7 and lock down. 99.5 degrees throughout and humidity from 40 to 60. Do you have a good fertility rate? I had 1 roo to 6 hens before and was had a 85-90% fertility rate and near 100% hatch rate. Of course i have lost a couple but they have been italians. I have to take the lethal gene in to consideration with them. I have NEVER had to pip for them either. Have you?

I would float test the ones that have not externally pipped, 24 hours from the first one that hatched. If they have externally pipped and nothing after 24 hours I would break away a bit more of the shell to see if it is shrink wrapped.

Unless your eggs were stagger hatched or you have old eggs, they should ALL hatch within 24 hours.

Sue, I'd love for my flock to take my random african, unsure if I am willing to let them have my toulouse, and thee is no way they can they have my dewlaps. Fortunately, they gave up after a while and went back over to the horse property.

You have only the one quail that hatched? Didn't you set a gazillion eggs?

I candle. I think it's mostly my quail, because only about half develop. Then out of the ones that do hatch, a few pip and then die. I've tried helping before, but just had to cull those later on so I've quit and if they pip and don't make it they don't make it.

Oh no...

After moving the eggs off the turner last night the heat turner must have been bumped some how as this morning I woke up to the bator being 105 and drops on the inside. Adjusted it of course and opened it up. First pip duckling that had done well with the pip whole clearly through the window was getting shrink wrapped. Not the beak though. Waited till this afternoon and nothing new so I caved and snatched the egg and made the whole a bit bigger and spritzed it. Touched the beak and it did not move.... no movement all evening. :( Wonder if the others will make it or not.
