Well....I got some shocking/exciting news tonight. I'm going to be a grandmother

I told her she wasn't supposed to do that until I was at least 45...she's gonna be a couple years early! I'm totally beside myself......

Good hatch rate for quail I think.

Congrats! At least she's doing the incubating for you, and you get to just have fun with the baby.

Yes....it's belly is herniated, and though the baby is very active, it's not stretching out like it should be by now. It chirps, but doesn't open it's eyes. Odd. I have made sure it's eyes aren't stuck, and have it in a little bowl with it's chin up. We'll see what happens. It's a butterscotch, so I'm gonna be upset if it doesn't make it.

Not when they live over a 1000 miles away

Thanks guys...My daughter is 22, so it's to be expected at this age I guess, lol. My son is 15, so hopefully he'll hold off for awhile! My issue with the situation is that she and her husband got divorced back in December, then a few months ago they started going back and forth with trying to work things out. They didn't need this right now. The real kicker? They were told a couple years ago that there were fertility issues with each of them, and that getting pregnant was going to be hard, without help. Go figure!
And then, she lives in Florida, and I'm in Oklahoma....I won't be able to see my grandchild much!!! My emotions are all over the place right now.

Haha. My bator looked like the aftermath of a Grateful Dead concert the other morning.

well one more shrink wrapped quail and we'll have all we're gonna get outta this batch... appox 52 out of the 79 that went into lock down.... not bad for the first try

you also have to take into consideration that 25% of your italians will not make it due to the lethal gene. I would say it was a very good first hatch!
