He's doing a little better this morning, thanks for asking!! I could tell he was 100% relaxed and content in the pen last night and he slept really well. He has perked up a little this morning, is drinking/pooping, but does not seem interested in eating the mazuri. I am going to grab a little bit of corn (his favorite treat) when I go to the horse property for morning chores to see if he will eat a few kernels. I'll pick some grass for him too. He is clearly interested in the babies. They keep him company and provide entertainment. He doesn't seem to be antsy to get out of pen though, so I know he is still hurting.

hope he is better soon
In hatching news: My hatch isn't going so well. Seems like babies are having a hard time Internally Pipping. I need to candle again and see what's up now.

And in my defense!! I gather my eggs and set them and then think, "I need to go write that down." And then Stuff happens and I forget! lol. I blame the kids.

Other Updates: Fergie my sebbie that hasn't been acting right is back to normal. I isolated her and gave her a bunch of vitamins and the next day she was back to normal. I think she just needed a boost.

Love my goosies. Fiona, Fergie and Ferdinand are hanging out together during the day too. I might be tempted to pen them together at night.

Iain, we run 2-3 drakes per breeding flock of ducks. normally trying to keep 5-7 ducks per drake as a ratio. Only with the geese do we run pairs and trios. If you have enough girls, or can add more then there is no need to separate. There will always be the typical pecking order issues and drakes are just horny devils and will do male/male action. The ducks will do girl/girl action too if no drake is around.

Took some pictures today, but of course the juveniles and adults were on the other side of the front area and stayed there until I was done and had drained the camera battery.

It appears splayed leg now has a thigh problem rather than a leg issue

Thanks Celtic. This has been far from an enjoyable brooding first experience with these turkeys. I'll continue to try to help this one the best I can. This makes me wonder if I should just stick with waterfowl. I have rarely had any issues when brooding them.
I think its weird because my turkeys have been easier to hatch, brood & raise than any of my other poultry.... I think we all just have a knack for certain breeds

Thanks Jazzy and I think you nailed it! Certain breeds may just be easier for each individual.

Jaz, I agree on the nack for hatching a particular species. I wont ever be without waterfowl, specifically geese. They are easy to hatch, easy to raise, easy to feed. They are easier than even chickens for us, and we dont have high winter feed bills since we have pasture year round.

The Pheasants are pretty, but require permitting beyond what I want to deal with currently. We have enough paperwork with what we have. Good luck with those hatches, you will be building an aviary for them in no time. Will be curious if they have housing needs similar to peafowl special needs for cold weather.

Spring fever has hit ducky land. I watched Squeak and Caboose have a major fight in the kiddy pool, then Caboose was going around trying to rape any duck that risked getting in pool. Time to separate!! Can drakes and ducks share a fence line and be ok, or do the ducks need to be out of sight for the drakes to stop acting like idiots??
