I'm considering posting an ad begging for sources of semi-local hatching eggs. From now on, I'm driving to pick up my eggs.

Hubby and I are sitting here wallowing in shipped egg misery. I swear there's someone at our local post office who gets off on shaking the heck out of hatching eggs. I've got several people on my waiting list who have been waiting over three weeks because of the hatch rate I'm getting. Thank you so much, post office.

Anybody have some good hook-ups on hatching eggs (duck and Marans chicken) in Western WA? Will drive a reasonable distance.

Next time I get a hankering for exotic watefowl, I'll just suck it up and make the two day trip to Holderreads.

Depending on how many you want Jaz might be able to help you out. I could be wrong but she may have extras for sale. She has Marans and Cayugas laying right now.

My 2 males that I was trying to establish into my quail covey fought like mad, causing injury on one of my hens. I culled all quail except for 1 (scarlet red) male and 6 (tux,italian, and white) hens. I was getting about 90% fertility when I had this ratio in the past. He has been crowing and doing his business so I hope to crack open a few of their eggs in a few days to check for a bulls eye. Once I am certain they are fertile I can send you eggs. Sorry for the wait, it's embarrassing. At this time I have also decided I do not want anymore quail eggs so if you want to just pay for shipping I will send you as many as you would like for free.

There was also someone else that wanted eggs but I can't remember who. Please speak up if you are still interested!

Putting the feather kids to bed and calling it a night. Hoping my new little trout runners make it through the night. None of them had an easy hatch and I'm lucky to have 3 out of 14 eggs. Got two appleyards out of 12 eggs.

I'm loving the apples though, they are too darn cute!

Well, there shall be no more free silkie duck hatching eggs for me. Something got the girl silkie and also ate 8 out of nine runner duck babies at the farm. Free ranging has its negatives for sure. I'm still shell-shocked over that and all the violence that happened in Seattle recently. I had that nagging feeling when I got up that not all was right with the world.

On a good note, I have two fluffy applewoods and a fluffy little trout runner in the brooder now! I have another trout in the incubator that's out but staying in there to rest. SW. Grr.

We had a power outage that lasted maybe a half hour last weekend and I think that did in this hatch pretty bad. I'll get my keepers, but doubt I'll have any extras.

Getting sick of hatching. Actually, sick of the disappointing few weeks I've had. So sad that I lost my silkie duckling. And I'm not holding out too much hope for the birthday silkies either. They're just too hard to hatch. Boss was mentioning getting silkie duck hatching eggs. I just told her to pay the money to Holderreads and be done with it.

So sorry to hear that! What a bummer...poor girl.

Just returned from the vet office. The injury on the one girl's face had me worried and for good reason. Vet gassed her to drain a sample from swelling and found mucus, plus could see blood getting into nose and a bit into the eye socket. She is staying there overnight and is scheduled for surgery tomorrow.

On the bright side, she is otherwise very healthy, in good flesh, and vet thinks they will be able to fix her up tomorrow. All three babies (I figured why not take all three for a once over) were perfect dolls. Love them!

Quackers, sorry to hear about your silkie duck on the farm!

Oh my! Sorry they didn't have a good trip! You are so lucky to have a good vet for them.

Thanks, guys!! Talk about a rough ride here. My local USPS people may be awesome, but those Cali people must be evil. I don't even want to know what all this is going to cost to fix her! But, what else could I do? We are trying to think of a name for her that means expensive.... In the meantime, the other two are back home in their pen, loving being next to the grey dewlap babies. It is quite cute to watch them.

The chicken side of BYC. gets butt hurt WAY too easily. I correct one BYC expert for misleading information and I have like 3 other people start blabbering because they still thought they were right.
