Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

My Rant for the day:

The chicken side of BYC. gets butt hurt WAY too easily. I correct one BYC expert for misleading information and I have like 3 other people start blabbering because they still thought they were right. Well Guess what? I was still right when they looked it up. I guess us duck people are nearly as stupid as they seem to think we are

Yup! That's why I don't spend too much time over there. The special breeds pages are cliquey too.

Kevin, heaven forbid you correct a long term BYC'r over there > on the chicken side. Many get their feathers ruffled and some have been known to retaliate with the use and or abuse of "power". The breed spacific threads can get heated as well. Unfortunately the hatcheries selling birds labeled wrongly will add to that issue. Marans who lay medium to light brown eggs. EE labeled as Ameracuana ect, ect. :/

That is why I love this thread and everyone on it

. posted Mr Worf's injury on the emergency thread and here. Got a response right away here and nothing there for days. And by the way Mr Worf is nicely healed up with feathers growing back in almost can't tell that he was ripped open across his chest.

Well I still need to do more fortifications on my chicken tractor and coop... darned skunk(?) managed to dig under my fence again in a new spot. I don't think it was able to get into the coop this time but it did get into the tractor portion. Does anyone know of any non toxic skunk repellent that works? I was thinking of using a repellent as a supplement to the fortifications I will have to make.

Iain glad the vet is able to help. Did she say how the injury happened? Besides intransit that is. Did something puncture the gosling?

The vet isn't sure the extent of the injury nor how it happened yet. I got the morning report from tech. She is eating/drinking well and was quite social with the tech (who seems to have fallen in love with her). Swelling on face is same. They are taking xrays this morning and have her scheduled for surgery between noon-3pm. It does not look like a puncture as there is no evidence of one. It appears to me to be a hard blunt trauma.

How is your husband doing??

Hi Wulf! Good news!
how are your geese doing?
I got a pic of her little Lucy a couple days ago. Between her Dads and church she hasn't been on much.

Any ideas on what happened?

Hope they find the source and she does ok with post op.

Hubby isn't well at all. Spent half of yesterday with doctors. Looks like it will be just me and boys here very soon. He has to be seen by specialists we just don't have here. I can't even travel with him since the kids don't have anyone else to stay with them. So will be hoping the transfer to a new hospital will bring answers and maybe a fix. Answers is all we are hopeful for. Talking major neurological disorders now among other things.

So we are rushing to get as much done as we can while he is here. Our almost 14 year old is very handy, can run a fence and build a pen as well as hubby and I can. He also knows the turn out system and feeding system so is a huge help both with the animals and his little brother too.

Looking for someone local right now who can help with some of the goose and duck house building we need to finish. I hate the thought of paying someone since everyone seems to be charging triple for "poultry" buildings right now. Lots of counties and towns here are going pro chicken ect, so lots of people trying to make a buck selling buildings.
