Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in and say hello! I hope all is well.

I love the runner in the last photo of my previous post. Check out the little yellow spots...

The final two are going to a new home tomorrow. Wish I could keep them, but if I kept them all I'd be the crazy duck lady!

Hey guys! Another question...

My intentions when I started hatching were to at least keep one of the females, because one, I wanted one that I hatched, and two, more eggs! The little guy that I hatched last week, of course, turned out to be a drake, so now I'm attached. I've read that you shouldn't have more than one drake per six hens, right? So I've decided I'm going to build him a separate pen and if hatch a female she can go in there with him. What are your opinions on inbreeding? I've read several different things. Some say they aren't like humans, but genetic problems can happen if you have several generations breeding with each other. I don't intend on hatching and adding to each flock, this will just be a one time deal if I get a female. I have three eggs that I set a week later than the hatch I just had in another incubator that are due this weekend. I'm hoping I get a hen. Or is it okay to add more females in with flock, which will be her father and brother who would be their mate? Oh, this is confusing!

Hey Quackers! Congrats on the new babies!! The 1st trout runner pic looks like my silver appleyards. And it's ok to be the crazy duck lady. I'm already getting known as the crazy goose lady around here, but all of my neighbors fortunately love geese (and animals in general).

ok thanks! i have 2 small kids and i wouldn't want them to get hurt! i guess i will just have to start saving my pennies and spring for the dewalps

You will LOVE them! The buffs are soooo sweet!

Bakin, as far as temperament goes, I do not see a difference between my toulouse and my grey dewlaps. My buff dewlaps, on the other hand, are extremely mild mannered.

Hopefully these are in your price range? I hatched 3 of 5 eggs from this seller and they are very nice birds.

Before I moved to where I am now, I was know as the chicken lady, lol. There's a guy down the road from me that is well known at the chicken auctions an such, as Chicken Charlie. If you say you live down the road from Chicken Charlie, everyone is like, "oh yeah! Chicken Charlie! We know him!" LOL

Utah....I will get pics today of the Dewlaps. Simon is so big! I want you to look at the two greys, Marcel and Marceau. Marcel is not getting heavy like the rest of the group, and has a very black bill. She is getting tall, though. Carole just had Dewlaps, right?
My son's blue Runners have pretty much feathered in....such funny ducks to watch, lol.
I have 2 Calls in the hatcher, working on hatching, and I'm hatching silkie chicks at the moment, too. My butterscotch Calls have started laying again??!! They brooded a batch, and I thought they were done for the year. Both of those girls are laying, even though their man is molting like crazy. The other pair of butterscotch have started laying, too, and I totally didn't expect that! So glad I'm getting more butter eggs!

thanks! that was what i was thinking from everything i read on this thread. i think the little one will need more time it is still wobbley. i also gave it a little nutridrench cause it seems a lot weaker than the other one was at a similar age. it also falls on its back a lot
