Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Jaz, I can only imagine how hard it must be to part with your pups, even though they went to great homes. Sorry... but at the same time, congrats too!

Thank you Dutch Girl, they have been so much fun watching them play in the water and some times I will let the water overflow just so they have a some mud to muk in. Right now we have gotten over 4 inches yesterday and 2 the day before so they are eating to their hearts content and not eating there duck breeder food. I will be starting to switch them over to half breeder and half layer pellets as they are getting healthier. What do you think of my green drake? Sorry Dutchchic on getting your name wrong.

Congrats Bruce and Kevin!
Well been busy busy ! All my pups went into their homes this weekend, it was bitter sweet

Today we bought 2 ~ 300 gallon rubbermaid ponds

They are going to soooo loved by my ducks & geese!
Awesome ponds!
I think I may have found a way to help Spirit! In my research, I found that the company Teva made a custom shoe for a penguin whose foot looks just like Spirit's foot. So, I hunted down the specific person who works at Teva who designed the penguin shoe and called him. We had a great talk and he said he would like to help my goose!! I sent him pics and he wants me to trace the foot and send him the outline, then he will look for samples of different materials. He will be in town for the big trade show in August, so we have a goal to have something to try to fit on her when he is here.

I really think if Spirit had a shoe like the penguin, she could live a normal life with the rest of her dewlap clan.

Thanks Dutch and GQ. I'm trying not to get too attached since their not really "My" babies to raise and I know letting her raise them is defiantly taking a chance of losing some.

No change on the gosling. Except her crop is getting even bigger. The vet gave me some advice but nothing seems to be working. I'm at work today and I am going to try to take her back when I get off. I want the vet to DO something. I am so upset...

Hey Quackers, did you sell those pretty chicks? Are your silkie eggs' air cells dipping?? How many are still going??

Sue, how's Fred and her babies doing? Julie said you guys were getting her gander. So happy for you, Julie and especially the gander .

Shannon, oh no!! How terrible!! Please keep the updates coming!!

Fred, Ethel and kids taken yesterday... She's only got 3 of the 5 hatched but these appear to be healthy She's a geat mom for being her first year... Ethel was clumsy and not watching where he walked the first few days but he's much better now. I'll be glad when I can let all of them hang out as one flock

Love the pools! Gonna have some very happy birds! I don't think I could raise puppies....I wouldn't want to let any go!

Now that sounds really awesome! Wow......what luck to find a guy that can do that! Is there a pic of the penguin with his special shoe?

LOL...that's ok. There is a DutchGirl on BYC, I believe. Glad your babies are doing well!

You will be suprised. I've had geese raise goslings, several times, with no losses. And that was free-ranging, without fencing, and in the open. The parents are fierce protectors, and good at keeping the babies together. Just make sure there isn't any place a baby can get stuck....had one do that one year, and fortunately I found it in time that it was fine. The parents were happy to have it back.

I sure hope you can get her help. I can't believe the vet hasn't gotten aggressive with the situation and gone down into the crop to pull stuff out if that is the issue.

Lovely family, psue! Mine pull at my pants if they aren't getting the attention they want, lol

I called the vet from work, she has agreed to flush the crop on my little girl. My DH is taking her over there for me. I am so happy but I'm very scared at the same time. Wish us luck!!!
