Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I'm making some major cut backs now. I'm weeding out all the aggressive birds (Which is like half of my birds) and rehoming them to better suiting homes.

Freezer camp?
:p

Mean birds don't survive here, they find a nice resting place via the food saver bags in the freezer.

Making cuts around here again. Sold two more Sebbie goslings today, sold 4 American buffs 2 weeks ago. Before the rains came in started sorting the remaining Sebbies for early picks. October can't get here soon enough to see how hubbies buff dewlaps grow or if we won't bother breeding them next year.

I wish! Some day I think I'll have the strength to dispatch the mean ones. At this point I think I'd have a entire freezer

. However, I'm looking into the best accommodations for a disabled turkey

Meet the new additions to the duckie family. Not sure what their future is going to be since they are both drakes which I don't need more of. Hubby is in love with the runner like I knew he would be so he will be staying, just got to find him a few girls. The other I'm not sure of, but whatever it is will be better than what it was. I have decided it is my personal mission to rescue all the poor dumped ducks from the local parks.

Went out to try today, and ended up coming home with these 2 guys. Trying again tomorrow, and every few days until I get them all. There's rescue groups for stray dogs, cats, etc, but no one to help these poor guys. So I am officially even more than before a crazy duck lady I guess, lol.

SOOOO happy mu hubby is handy! He is building my pheasant pen ~ I think he deseves a big kiss ! Will post pics later.... This is just phase one obviously
Awesome hubby!

Nothing wrong with being a crazy duck lady... from one crazy duck lady to another. I have to avoid public parks and lakes because I would be ducknapping daily.

You need to check with your local park rangers. Domestic ducks are easy to spot because they are usually very large and can not fly. No domestic breed can legally be dropped off so the Park rangers may allow you to take them easily. If not there's always some other ways to get them without the authorities....

How did you go about capturing the abandoned ducks and how did you know which ones were abandoned?
I lured them away from the water, and then caught them. They are domestic ducks, not mallards, wood ducks, etc. And they are public parks, so they are not supposed to be there anymore than a dog or cat. They can't fly, are sitting bait for predators, and interbreed with the mallards which isn't good for the mallards since then their offspring is mixed an unlikely to survive.

I wanted to go last week, when I saw a big pekin girl but waited until I got official permission. BTW, apparently I was too late for the poor pekin girl, she was no longer there. WIsh I hadn't waited and had just got her when I saw her. There were however, 4 new ducks there. The runner I caught, his rouen buddy, and a 3-4 week pekin duckling and a rouen mix looking one around the same age. A scovy hen too, but she could fly and I was hoping was just lost.

. Your such a good person Julie!

The khaki mix looking one came from another park a mile or so away. It was living with about 60 canada geese, and I wish I had a video of me trying to catch that poor guy, lol. The geese swarmed me and I had to step on, walk through, kick out of the way, swim through pretty much to get to the poor guy. There was another duck there that I originally went to go after, but I didn't see him anywhere. Poor things don't last long at the parks.
